Dullness is from what state above? Diligence is expansion. Carelessness is reliance on virtue. Faith is holding onto the manifestation of means and what arises from means, saying, 'It is like this.' Superior intention is the superior intention to attain perfect enlightenment. Giving is for all the phenomena that obstruct the path. Reverence is the practice of not abandoning the nature of perfect Buddhas. Joy is manifest joy in offering and so on to these very ones. Trust is the actual existence of the qualities of practice as explained. Supreme joy is supreme joy in separating from all and directing towards the emptiness of all phenomena, such as perfect Buddhas. Not abandoning diligence is not abandoning the path of aspiration to attain perfect enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings. If these rely on the Perfection of Wisdom, if they exist in that way, then their faith in those, until they do not abandon diligence, is for the sake of attaining perfect enlightenment, and those too, before they attain the Blessed One, will abide in omniscience. In some books, it is not recited, 'For the sake of attaining perfect enlightenment, the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment.' In this regard, faith is not another faith, thus explaining, the meaning spoken is, for oneself, for the sake of another example, what will slightly appear, what is said is, 'For example,' and so on. Skillful means refers to the five perfections. Similarly, because the six perfections completely hold, the faith of the mind, like being extremely ripe, carries water and does not abandon it in the middle, does not penetrate it, and will abide in omniscience. 'Not spoken' means that there is no slander of the mind of enlightenment. 'Not harmed' means that faith and diligence, etc., have not been harmed in the realm of perfect enlightenment. Again, for the sake of extreme stability, the example of a boat is explained in another way, such as, 'For example,' and so on. It is very clear that the cause of the boat breaking is not understood, so it is called a reckless wise person.

As for the reasons for doubt arising in what place, it is what is said, "without making an eye shield," and so on. Regarding this, there are two kinds of doubts here: the doubt of the root decaying and the doubt of the fruit decaying. Among them, the doubt of the root decaying that is spoken of is "its substance will also change into something else," and the doubt of the fruit decaying that is spoken of is "great," and so on. "From the great meaning" refers to from faith and so on that aim at true Bodhi. "From the heap of jewels of other great meanings" refers to from the accumulation of the Buddha's Dharma, such as strength and so on. "Having done the eye shield well" means "also having done the eye shield." In any case, it will become having done the eye shield. "Having arranged well" means that by completeness itself, all things are combined, and consistency is conformity. Therefore, know that it is a vehicle. A vehicle refers to the tool for riding. In order to indicate again, other examples are given, such as "for example," and so on. "Old" refers to because it is a decaying body. "Aging" refers to because of old age. "Decaying" refers to the complete loss of memory and so on due to old age. "Having lived to one hundred and twenty years" refers to because he has the measure of one hundred and twenty years, so he is one hundred and twenty years old, less than one hundred years old. "After being born" means "by being born." This refers to the abbreviated meaning of "so many years have passed since birth." "Without relying, can he rise from the bed?" refers to not being completely supported by others. "Bed" refers to a sleeping bed. "Walking" refers to for the sake of walking. "Destroying" refers to exhausting. "Where" refers to which direction. "How long" refers to how long. "There" refers to in that city. The example itself is an example, such as the ship of the sea and so on. This is the chapter with the ending, that is, the fourteenth chapter from the chapter of examples. Thus, those who are skilled in the Prajnaparamita will fall from the two separate vehicles. Without separation, one will not attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. After thus well instructing, the Venerable Subhuti asked:

Thus, if someone asks what to say to a beginner who has newly and correctly entered the Mahayana, it starts from "the beginner," and so on. "To abide" means to practice. "To learn" means to fully understand. Then, considering that a beginner needs a virtuous friend in any case, the Blessed One taught that one should attend to virtuous friends, starting from "Subhuti, in this," and so on. "To attend" means not to abandon. "To rely on" means not to abandon when teaching the Dharma. "To revere" means to rely on. So, what should they do? The Blessed One said, "Whoever in this," meaning "to admonish," which is the meaning of entering practice. "Subsequently teach" is the meaning of the complete combination of practice. Regarding the nature of the pith instructions, the Blessed One said, "Whoever," and so on. Again, to explain who these virtuous friends are, the Blessed One said, "They are," and so on. The Blessed One also said, "How do they closely explain the meaning for this reason?", starting from "Therefore, saying this," and so on. Saying this is in this way. From "You come here," and so on, until "Do not crave." This practice of the Prajnaparamita has four aspects: practicing the six paramitas, fully maturing in complete enlightenment, not clinging to signs, and not generating desire for other grounds. First, the Blessed One said, "For the perfection of generosity," and so on. "Yoga" means union or diligence. Second, the Blessed One said, "All those." Third, the Blessed One said, "Do not be proud of form," that is, do not grasp with the nature of form, with the view of discrimination. "Not proud" means not discriminating with all dharmas. "Completely subdue" means habituation. Fourth, the Blessed One said, "Son of good family, you are proud of form." "Subhuti, if so," and so on, is a summary. Now it is the characteristic of the venerable Subhuti himself.
