It is said: Subhuti, whatever merit is accumulated by the Bodhisattvas, that is also referred to as emptiness. Therefore, it is for this very reason that, in general, the emptiness of all virtues is said to be the emptiness of the inexhaustible, unabandonable nature. As it is said: The emptiness of virtues, That goes on inexhaustibly, just like that, The distinctions of the constant nature, In emptiness, what is that? Thus it is said. Again, the Bodhisattva should think like this: If all dharmas are empty, then the nature of beings becomes the dharmas such as desire, and the nature of beings becomes the thoughts, habits, and special inclinations such as desire, and the knowledge of lineage, etc., these will not be recognized. By what means do the Buddhas know the thoughts and habits, and know the various special inclinations, and the so-called Buddhadharma, etc., enter? Again, one should think like this: These dharmas cannot be said to be other dharmas. Because these are the differences in the state of flowing in the mind stream. Therefore, these are not other dharmas, this is merely the emptiness of nature. If it is said that lineage is nature, that is because it is the main one. Because of the purity of lineage, the Bodhisattvas strive to act. Among them, from the eye source to the mind source, the difference of the six sources that have been established since beginningless time is called lineage. However, there, compassion and wisdom themselves are the main ones, extremely pure, striving to accomplish the meaning of beings as much as possible, therefore, the nature of compassion and wisdom is called the lineage of the Bodhisattvas. Bhagavati, here, whatever is said to be the emptiness of consciousness, that also shows the emptiness of nature. As it is said: In the emptiness of inner self, There is also the emptiness of nature, Of consciousness...

It is the family of self-nature. Desiring the self-nature of compassion and wisdom. This is said. Furthermore, one should think like this: what is the nature of all dharmas? These natures, with form as their nature, are form. With experience as their nature, it is feeling, and so on. If they exist, will form and so on also exist? Furthermore, one should determine like this: if these natures are different from the basis, then they will also be born earlier than the basis. At that time, what is the use of the nature that is born later when the basis has no nature? Or, if the natures are later, then before the nature arises, the basis has no nature, so what is the use of this nature later? Or, if the basis and the nature exist simultaneously, then since they have not been seen separately before, there is no difference between 'this is the basis' and 'this is the nature', so the basis will become without nature. Or, if the basis and the nature are not different, then how should one call the basis and the nature? For the basis that has not been established, since there is no difference from it, the nature will also not be established. As it is said: Nature is different from the basis, if the basis has no nature, without otherness, then they do not exist, you have clearly declared. The basis is liberated by nature, abandoning the expression of words, your eye of wisdom, sees this world in peace. Therefore, all natures are also completely imputed by the completely imputed dharma, and the so-called completely imputed is the emptiness of self-nature. The thirty-two major marks of the great man of the Buddhas, and the purpose for which the Bodhisattva strives, for them also, in order to abandon the view of things, the Bodhisattva should contemplate the emptiness of self-nature. One should understand that these three emptinesses are taught by the Blessed One in the sutras, that is, teaching that form and so on have no self-nature. As it is said: Form and so on do not exist, that body and, the nature of abiding is destroyed, meaning.

Na means understanding. Again, one should think like this: if all dharmas did not exist, then at that time powers and fearlessness, etc., would not exist. Compassion and generosity, etc., the dharmas of bodhisattvas, would also not exist; then, for the sake of attaining what would one strive? Therefore, purified dharmas do exist. If, because of their existence, all afflicted dharmas also arise, then again, one should ascertain that if some ultimate dharma exists, then it would be permanent. Because dharmas that change and transform are not the reasoning of ultimate truth. Their very being is truth and ultimate truth, which is called non-inverted. If that is the case, if purified dharmas are ultimate, then at that time they would already exist, therefore they would not transmigrate in samsara. However, if all afflicted dharmas were ultimate, then liberation itself would not be achieved. Therefore, these dharmas are completely imputed, because they possess change; this is called the emptiness of all dharmas. As it is said: Empty, devoid of agent and action. Like an illusion, arising from conditions. O Protector, you have clearly shown all dharmas to be without inherent existence. In this sutra it says: As it is said, O Bhagavan, other than manifest realization, are the dharmas of the Buddhas or the dharmas of the Bodhisattvas not objects of focus? That very thing indicates this. Again, as it is said: The dharmas of the Buddhas are not seen in the dharmas of the Bodhisattvas. Shown by knowable objects, etc. The ten powers, etc., are empty. So it is said. Again, one should think like this: in inner emptiness, what is said about not focusing on the self? Regarding that, not focusing on it means that there is another dharma; if non-focusing did not exist, then would the self become an object of focus? Again, one should ascertain that non-focusing is not the reasoning of another dharma, because if non-focusing existed, then one would separately focus on it. In that case, how could the nature of focusing be called non-focusing? Because it is contradictory.
