If it is thought that the emptiness of that which is compounded by finding a place will not turn into enlightenment, then it should be determined again that there is not even a little other dharma called "compounded." If it were to exist, then it would not become what is called "compounded." Because what is called "compounded" arises truly from compounding, and because it is made by causes and conditions, it is called "compounded." If some part of what is called "compounded" were to exist, then it would not be made by others. Because no truly existent dharma can be made by anything. Therefore, since it arises entirely from the complete imputation of children, it is expressed by such a name that has become such. Birth, abiding, and destruction, which are called the characteristics of the compounded, also exist nominally. Therefore, the basis of characteristics also arises only as existing nominally. Because it is not reasonable for a characteristic that exists nominally to be on a truly existent dharma. It is not reasonable for one dharma to have three characteristics. If it were to become a truly existent compounded dharma, then this is the emptiness of the compounded. As it is said, "That which arises dependently is unborn. Who is the master you speak of?" It should be considered again, so then do the uncompounded have a truly existent nature, because they are uncompounded? If that is not the case, then through the words "truly obtaining virtue and liberation," would the truly obtained virtue of nirvana itself not apply to the bodhisattvas? It should be determined again in this way that what is called "uncompounded" is not another existing dharma. What is called "uncompounded" is not spoken of because of the nature of the non-existence of the compounded, but because of reality itself. For example, space is a characteristic of the uncompounded. Other than this, there is no existing characteristic that is established. Cessation through discrimination is also a characteristic of the non-existence of all compounded dharmas. Similarly, cessation not through discrimination is also called the characteristic of the destruction of compounded dharmas. Therefore, even according to the system of the Hearers, these are not truly existent.

Such is the nature of it, what need is there to speak of it in terms of emptiness? For them, realizing emptiness, this is called unconditioned emptiness. As it is said: For the purpose of obtaining two virtues. The virtue that is spoken of is conditioned and unconditioned. As it is said in this Bhagavati (Prajnaparamita Sutra): This perfection of giving is increasing, and this perfection of giving is decreasing, it does not occur like this to a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. However, it occurs again like this, this is just a name. For example, all the perfections of giving and so on. Similarly, Bhagavan, for the sake of the meaning that cannot be expressed, there is nothing that increases or decreases. The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, it is not so. Therefore, for giving and other conditioned virtues, etc., because there is attachment to the object, it is with faults; for the unconditioned cessation of the ultimate truth, because there is no object for the unconditioned, it is without faults in the manner of no self-nature, therefore emptiness is taught. As it is said: With faults and without faults, because there is no increase and decrease, the virtues of the conditioned and unconditioned, all are extinguished. It is like this. Again, the Bodhisattva thinks like this, if all dharmas are emptiness, then, which beings, in the beginningless cycle of samsara, in the three times, are those who revolve in the cycle of samsara, whose minds and actions are known, and are called the Bhagavan Omniscient? They all exist in the three times. Again, it is determined like this, one being itself has three ends, and three names arise, namely, future, present, and past. If beings truly exist, then there should be only one name. Therefore, the past end is also beyond the end. Similarly, it is the same for both. Its emptiness is the emptiness beyond the end. As it is said: For the sake of constantly benefiting beings. Again, think like this: Children
