Therefore, it is consciousness. The sphere of infinite consciousness is the birthplace, like the beginning and the end. Furthermore, consciousness is called infinite because it is not material, because there is no interruption in what is grasped. Others call it infinite because it holds infinite space. Or, by the power of increasing aspiration, or by the decrease of the immaterial limbs in meditation, one will truly go. However, because the object has truly passed away, and because the perceptions of body and so on have long since ceased, one who has the perception of truly practicing has truly transcended the sphere of infinite space. Seeing the fault of the ultimate desire, the one who sees peace in the arising of that certainty, the sphere of infinite consciousness, is the characteristic of the one-pointedness of the mind focused on the object. The third is to truly transcend the second. Saying "nothing at all," the thing that is nothing at all is nothing at all. That itself is the birthplace, the basis of attention. In the first, the perceptions of form and so on are truly transcended. In the second, it is the perception of infinite space. Here, what fault is there in the perception that is called infinite space? Those themselves are infinite and complete. If there is doubt, as mentioned before, if one does not pay a little attention, then consciousness does not abide. Thus, this sphere of infinite consciousness has transcended the fault of the ultimate desires, and in the arising of certainty, it is the characteristic of the one-pointedness of the mind focused on the object of nothingness, which is the perception of peace. The fourth is the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. There, perception is like a thorn. It has been completely abandoned because it is gone. Non-perception has also been attained, called ignorance. Having completely abandoned it, seeing the other in sequence, the nature of subtle perception, that itself is the birthplace. Here, one strives for the sake of attention, therefore it is the birthplace. Because of distraction with that and that perception, there is doubt of turning away from the faults, so the birthplace of nothingness is also completely abandoned. Seeing the faults of desire and so on, and with the arising of certainty, and the one who has the perception of peace in the other birthplace, perception

It is characterized by having an object that is neither existent nor non-existent, and by having the nature of one-pointedness of mind. The formlessness of these is mainly because it is the antidote to the perception of form, and because the four aggregates, such as feeling, are fully matured. The so-called six superknowledges: the superknowledge of magical power is based on meditative concentration, and for the purpose of traveling in various kinds of space, it is the mind and mental factors that possess concentration, wisdom, and complete correspondence with it, in the perfection of magical power. The superknowledge of the divine ear is the perfection of hearing all sounds, subtle and concealed, etc., as before. The superknowledge of the varieties of minds is the perfection of deeply engaging in the mental activities of other sentient beings, such as those with attachment, as before. The superknowledge of remembering previous lives is the perfection of remembering the actions of past lives, as before. The superknowledge of knowing death and birth is the perfection of the place where one truly sees the death and birth of sentient beings in the six realms, as before. The superknowledge of the exhaustion of defilements is the perfection of the knowledge of the exhaustion of defilements based on meditative concentration, in which the mind and mental factors possess concentration, wisdom, and complete correspondence with it. The so-called thirty-seven factors of enlightenment are the four mindfulnesses: body, feeling, dharma, and mind. Mindfulness focused on the four types of objects is the very establishment of mindfulness. The four right abandonments and the four kinds of diligence: there are two kinds because of not generating and abandoning unwholesome things that have not arisen and have arisen. There are two kinds for the sake of generating and maintaining wholesome things that have not arisen and have arisen. The feet of magical power are four kinds, namely, the so-called transcendental dharma, which is the place of the feet of magical power, namely, aspiration, magical power, mind, and investigation. The five faculties are the faculty of faith, the faculty of diligence, the faculty of mindfulness, and the faculty of concentration.
