Regarding selflessness: The Blessed One has universally proclaimed it. Furthermore, one should contemplate in this way: all dharmas are said to be of the nature of non-substantiality. Therefore, one should consider non-substantiality as the very nature. Therefore, in order to thoroughly establish non-substantiality as the nature, it is said that dharmas possess the nature of non-substantiality. However, if the nature of dharmas is non-substantiality, then it would only be said here that dharmas do not exist. Therefore, what is the gain in this? There is a gain, because if one acknowledges that all imputed dharmas are non-existent in every way, then the statement that these imputed dharmas themselves exist in the nature of non-substantiality clarifies existence through a part of the dharmas, therefore it is a very great gain. Again, ascertain what is the meaning of the statement that all dharmas are of the nature of non-substantiality? The term "all dharmas" refers to imputed dharmas and perfectly established dharmas. Among these, imputed dharmas are said to be completely non-substantial because they do not exist. Perfectly established dharmas are the nature of suchness, therefore, grasping the aspect that is the opposite of things, namely the meaning of non-thing, they are called non-substantial. Because of arising, it is a thing. Therefore, conditioned dharmas are called things. Conversely, whatever aspects are inexpressible and are to be known individually by oneself, that is what shows suchness through the term non-substantiality. Thus, it is said to be shown through both the existence and non-existence of dharmas. As the Blessed One said, "Where something is not, know that it is empty of that. Whatever remains here, know that it exists as it is." This means that the characteristics of the non-substantial nature of all dharmas will become more clearly interconnected. This is the explanation of non-substantiality.

The fifth chapter. Thus, as the Blessed Mother said, all dharmas are also truly self-existent. Thus, Subhuti! Thus, the Tathagata has manifested perfect and complete enlightenment, which means that the nature of all dharmas has never been created. The uncreated means that it is not born from the self-nature of the entity, or from the self-nature of non-entity. Therefore, this is said. As it is said: All dharmas are unborn, Those who manifest all knowable aspects, They show the selflessness of dharmas, With that wisdom in all ways. Thus it is said. All ways means that even with the self-nature of entity or the self-nature of non-entity, it is also said that all dharmas have no self-nature. In this sutra, no reasoning is given for the purpose of accomplishing all emptinesses. However, what is said in other sutras, which should be connected separately, has been shown by the teachers, so only a small part of the reasonable points are shown here. Thus, in front of the teacher Dignāga, it is also said: These are not the words of valid reasoning, It is only to indicate the action, In the sutras such as the Brahma Net Sutra, The collection of reasonings is said like this. Thus it is said. These reasonings from the scriptures are mainly based on the wisdom of the nature of thought, and become a means of realization. Having seen from the sutras and those, the holy teachers and others have widely explained the nature that is different from the reasonings of the debaters in the treatises such as the Paramita Vehicle and the Madhyamaka. Why? Because the reasoning of the debaters is only the result of the failure of others, not the means of realization. Therefore, it should be known that it is not only necessary for thinking about the meaning of the scriptures. These emptinesses are individually observed by the Bodhisattvas with the wisdom of familiarity for the purpose of increasing the meditation on non-perception of all dharmas. Therefore, how and how attachment arises, so and so well enter into it, therefore, one should not have doubts about different meanings from different sutras and different treatises, one should cultivate non-perception of all dharmas, and increase in all aspects.
