Etc. Again, since wisdom that is in accordance with reality does not arise from the perception of self and so on, therefore it should be abandoned. Whatever conceptualization arises from afflictions is all conceptualization. At that time, there will be statements such as "This is difficult to obtain." The term "all qualities" refers to the qualities of a Bodhisattva. The term "perfect Buddha-field and qualities" refers to the conclusion. So, this Perfection of Wisdom Sutra is the main scripture that teaches emptiness, because here emptiness alone is repeatedly taught in many ways until the end of the scripture. If this were to occur incidentally, then it would only be refuted once. In the great scriptures, sixteen kinds of emptiness are taught, namely, emptiness of the interior, emptiness of the exterior, and so on. If asked why these are not taught here, the answer is: they are taught, but with other names. If asked what this "other name" is, the answer is: with words of other meanings, that is, the name that is appropriate to the occasion with the main meaning is taught, that is, expressed. Its meaning is that it is expressed by the part of the word that expresses the main meaning, in the way of expressing the meaning of the secondary word. For example, the Blessed One said this: "Subhuti, be confident!" From the statement "As long as I, the Blessed One, have not found or seen a Bodhisattva, what Bodhisattva should I instruct in what?" to "This is instruction and following instruction," the fundamental instruction is clearly stated. Also, what is said here, "not seeing a Bodhisattva," is the emptiness of the interior. Similarly, other emptinesses should also be understood. As the master Bhāviveka said: "Having well distinguished in sixteen ways, how is the order of emptiness? What is taught from the Eight Thousand Stanza Perfection of Wisdom, should be understood by other names." However, so-called emptiness is only one, because all phenomena become one by their non-duality. Therefore, how can it be divided into many forms?

Is that so? Yes, it is. The distinctions of the Bodhisattvas' attention, etc., will become many and varied, but not in their own nature. Here, if a Bodhisattva is well-joined with attention to emptiness, he should think like this: If all dharmas are non-existent emptiness, then what is the "self" said in "one's own self is one's own protector, one's own self has done the deed," etc.? One should think like this. First, grasping the inner dharmas, such as form and feeling, and thinking about them, one will find that the object expressed by the word "self" does not appear to be truly existent in the ultimate sense. Therefore, for the sake of those outsiders who speak of the profound "self," one should contemplate the absence of a person. Those who are interested in the profound inner sense-bases, for their sake, should contemplate that the inner sense-bases are non-existent, and for the sake of both of these, it is inner emptiness. Here, a person is shown by "I." Similarly, through "ear," etc., some emptiness is shown from the perspective of the absence of a person. In some respects, "the eye is empty of the eye, the ear is empty of the ear," etc., is from the perspective of the absence of dharmas, so it should be explained like both. There are four ways to examine the eye: the eye itself is the self; I have an eye; there is a self in the eye; there is an eye in the self. "The eye itself is the self" is grasping the eye as the self. The three, such as "I have an eye," are grasping the eye as mine. Here, these four kinds of grasping, because they know the appearance of not focusing on the eye and as it is, they are frightened, and thus correctly and completely know, and truly realize that the eye is empty of self and mine. Similarly, for the ears, etc., this refers to inner emptiness from the perspective of the absence of a person. From the perspective of the absence of dharmas, there are three kinds of eyes: the imputed eye, the conceptual eye, and the eye of suchness. Here, the difference between what is to be said and what is saying

The eye that holds onto things is called the eye of pervasive imputation. The appearance of the eye that abides in the nature of the grasping and the grasped, the nature of discrimination, is the eye of discrimination. Because it is devoid of the aspect to be expressed and devoid of the appearance of the eye, the very nature that is completely established by being known individually is called the eye of the Dharma-nature. In this regard, the eye is empty of the eye, which means that the eye is the eye of the Dharma-nature. The function of the eye is through the eyes of pervasive imputation and discrimination. "Empty" means the meaning of being free from elaboration. Similarly, it should also be applied to things like the ear being empty of the ear. However, the ultimate truth is not something to be expressed, nor is it the nature of the eye. If it becomes the nature of the eye, it will become something to be expressed. Therefore, why is it said to be the eye of Dharma-nature? This is true, but even so, whatever is the complete aspect of the eye and so on, and form and sound and so on, the compounded dharmas, this indivisible and uniform aspect, when is it that one wants to express it by distinguishing it for the purpose of showing it extremely? At that time, since there is no other way to go, it is shown separately by the words of suchness of form, suchness of sound, suchness of smell, and so on, but that suchness is not of its nature, nor is it expressed by it. Thus, whatever this eye of Dharma-nature and so on is, it is said to be inner emptiness, being separate from the nature of the source of the inner self-nature eye and so on. In this way, even the two aspects of inner objects will transform the deep clinging. The Blessed Mother, in this, as it is said, "I, the Bodhisattva, do not contemplate," thereby shows inner emptiness, because the Bodhisattva does not see the nature of self and the nature of form and so on. As it is said, "The Bodhisattva is not seen; whoever is 'I,' as said by the Able One. The inner objects are very deep; that is empty."
