It appears as such. Moreover, it is the same on the lands such as the unwavering path of effortless travel. The meaning of "protector" is to completely protect from falling into the lands of Śrāvakas and others. The meaning of "refuge" is to accomplish all the practices of Bodhisattvas. The meaning of "abode" is because it is the support of unsurpassed bliss. The meaning of "ally" is because it is the place to attain omniscience through its unique nature. The meaning of "island" is because those who rely on it are not overwhelmed by the ocean of afflictions. Mother is for holding and nurturing. Father is for planting seeds. Knowing is for seeing. Realization is because it is the path of meditation. That is because it indicates the six perfections and so on. Subhuti, the meaning of "in this" is to rely on the six perfections. Through the perfections such as giving, the perfection of wisdom itself is ultimately perfected with the supreme fruit, the nature of the Buddha. In order to explain that the omniscience of the Buddhas of the three times is born from the six perfections, it is said: past time, etc. Therefore, these instructions, etc., are the meaning of lineage. Born means accomplished. In order to show that the Tathāgatas of the three times are able to manifest enlightenment, relying on the present fruit, it is said: I also. Why is that? Because of the divisions of enlightenment and other differences, there are many paths of enlightenment.

Having seen the practice of generosity and so on, it is in order to cause other beings to enter into the mind of complete enlightenment and so on. Now, the very essence of the Perfection of Wisdom itself is being taught, namely, "these" and so on. Wanting to learn means that among all the trainings, the Perfection of Wisdom is the forerunner, because it is the cause of manifest complete enlightenment. This itself is taught, namely, "What is the reason for that?" and so on. The so-called "forerunner" is because it is in accordance with the entry of all the perfections. The so-called "guide" is in order to correctly show to those who are ignorant. The so-called "supreme guide" is because it is supreme in itself. The so-called "correctly showing" is because it possesses the correct splendor for those who are weak in diligence. The so-called "universally showing" is to show the meaning of all-knowing, in order to generate great joy for those who have correctly entered. The so-called "generating" is not that one is born into the lineage of the Thus-Gone One by realizing the first ground. The so-called "mother" is because from the very first comprehension, it is correctly connected from higher to higher. Therefore, because of what is this itself a guide, a supreme guide, and so on, namely, because of seeing. If one wants to go without relying on others, it refers to the ground of practice by aspiration. The so-called "wanting to abide" is in order to obtain distinctions from higher to higher for those who have obtained realization. One should train in this very Perfection of Wisdom, and incidentally, one asks what the characteristic of the Perfection of Wisdom is, namely, the characteristic of non-attachment. Like space, it is the characteristic of being unobstructed, because it does not apprehend the own characteristics of all phenomena. Previously, the obstructions were shown to be near by the actions of the demons and so on. Now, the characteristic of being unobstructed in the ultimate sense is taught, namely, "all phenomena are secluded, all phenomena are empty." If the phenomena of imputation are secluded, then the very nature of all perfectly established phenomena is such, therefore they are empty.

That is the meaning. Subhuti and others ask with "if" and other words, asking the Blessed One: If all dharmas are empty and devoid of inherent existence, then they will not become empty later, nor will they be made empty later. Then, how are these empty and devoid things defiled and how are they purified? Asking this is the meaning of "What do you think? Sentient beings from a long time ago" and so on: If all dharmas are empty and devoid, then children, due to the fault of not understanding emptiness itself, will grasp at the five aggregates and all dharmas as "I" and "mine," and thus become attached. Attachment will also lead them to strive to accumulate merit and non-merit. By its power, they will wander and revolve in samsara, defiled by afflictions and defiled by karma. In this way, they fully understand defilement due to the fault of not understanding. Later, when they find a virtuous friend, they will realize the nature of truth and the nature of emptiness through the power of hearing and thinking. At that time, in order to dispel the defilements spoken of in an instant, they will gradually and completely transform the imputed dharmas and fully understand them as purified. Grasping is grasping at characteristics. Manifest attachment is grasping at something as real. "Not suppressing" means not being able to be taken away. The conduct of the Shravakas and others is suppressed because their conduct is limited to their own benefit. In order to stabilize the meaning that has been spoken, the Blessed One rejoices and says, "It is so." Now, because it is said that there is no practice for forms and other dharmas, those who think that there is no meaning in practicing the Prajnaparamita, in order to dispel their doubts, the Blessed One speaks of the greatness of merit and its cause, that is, "Again, if" and so on, "And abide for as long as life lasts" means for as long as life exists.
