That which is called "not being arrogant" is to be trained in that way. If even the mind of bodhi does not become arrogant, then the word "also" refers to the bodhisattvas, and whatever mind enters is called a bodhisattva, because it possesses a certain quality, and sentient beings are also called bodhisattvas. The word "also" has a special meaning. Because it surpasses all sentient beings, the bodhisattvas also think that if even this is not arrogant, then what need is there to mention other dharmas? Why is that? That is to say, that is not being arrogant. In what way? The answer is, in this way, that mind is no-mind. The word "mind" refers to universal discrimination and false discrimination. For perfect accomplishment, the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, the essence of the nature of reality, transcends the nature of all universal discrimination and false discrimination, therefore there is no nature of mind. Therefore it is said to be no-mind. Therefore it is said, the nature of mind is luminosity. In terms of the nature of reality, the nature of mind is luminosity, therefore it is no-mind, there is no mind of universal discrimination and false discrimination. How is it known? The nature of mind is luminosity, because that mind is neither completely in accordance with nor not in accordance with desire and so on, and in the state of ordinary beings, even when desire and hatred and so on arise, it is not stained by all defilements like the sky, therefore it is said to be not completely in accordance. Again, for those who have become Buddhas, that mind does not accord with sudden afflictions, because it abides in the nature of self-nature purity, and it does not produce those defilements again, therefore it is luminous. Just like the sky that is not stained by clouds and so on, it is said to be not separated. Because if it had been completely in accordance before, then

it will also be separated. Because the previous state with defilements is also inherently pure, it is not completely in accordance with those, therefore it is said that it is not in accordance with those later. Venerable Subhuti, what do you think, is there a mind that is without mind? What does this mean? Like this, mind, refers to the fact that for the permanent Subhuti, in that state also the word mind is used to express it, because there is no nature of mind, so the mind exists. Therefore, ask, therefore the permanent Subhuti said, the nature of mind or the nature of Bodhisattva exists there, say this. However, with the nature of unspeakable, in that state, it is called by the name of very pure. Otherwise, it cannot be called. Following the previous power, mind, refers to saying that there is no mind, is it expressed with that kind of thought? Venerable Shariputra, what do you think, the nature of no mind, in that nature of no mind, does it exist or not exist, does it come or point there? In the state of no mind, both existence and non-existence cannot be said, because it approaches two extremes. This is what is to be expressed. For this reason, it is said, Venerable Subhuti, that does not exist, refers to the permanent Subhuti is not again. If in that state, because of the fear of two extremes, so both cannot be said, why ask that way? What you refute, will that be reasonable? After saying that, the permanent Shariputra said, if existence and non-existence also do not exist. In that case, the nature of no mind also does not exist, why say no mind? With this thought, Venerable Subhuti, what is the nature of no mind? After that, the permanent Subhuti thought that for me there is another nature of no mind, so he said no mind. However, what was asked before

Because the state associated with (afflictions) changes, and because there is conceptualization, non-mentality arises from that. Now, regarding it (non-mentality), merely acknowledging that mind itself does not exist, one speaks of non-mentality. Therefore, it is said: Shariputra, endowed with life, non-mentality is without change and without conceptualization. Just as the previous state of mind, because there is no change and no conceptualization, here it is said to be the meaning of non-mentality. The noble Lord Maitreya also said: Just as water becomes clear when stirred, clarity itself does not arise from elsewhere, but because it completely removes impurities from it. For the purification of one's own mind, this ritual is the same. Mind is inherently considered to be luminous, but it is always harmed by sudden faults. Abandoning the mind of Dharma-nature, for the minds of others, the luminous nature is difficult to achieve. Just as water is inherently clear, but becomes turbid due to sudden turbidity. Similarly, mind is inherently luminous, but is harmed by sudden faults, because one has not realized the mind of Dharma-nature, one universally contemplates the minds of others, and with the characteristics of external power, one cannot achieve the luminosity of one's own nature. Therefore, the suchness of mind is what is meant here by "mind is to be known." Beginning with "then," the venerable Subhuti correctly explained non-mentality, and immediately the venerable Shariputra said "Good, good," that is, "Good, good." The word "again" means "clarity." What is clear? Just as you, the Bhagavan, have said, to truly show the supreme state of dwelling in non-affliction. What is non-affliction? Afflictions are afflictions, and all Arhats have completely eliminated these afflictions from their own continuum. If someone is able to not restrain afflictions from the continuum of others, then it is called dwelling in non-affliction. How is it possible? When one knows one's own object, etc., hatred, etc.
