English
One. The meaning is that because the killing done in a dream is without self-nature, therefore seeing all dharmas as unborn and without object, even the transcendental wisdom, also because each ordinary person knows by the nature of being without dreams, therefore that objectless mind becomes an object of non-entities. Therefore, there is no additional Vipāka (karmic result) there. The killing done during the day is not done as a non-entity by the doer of each ordinary person. Therefore, that and the mind of the object of focus are the object of entities, controlled by the intention of the doer, therefore, that will produce additional fruit. If that is the case, what is done in a dream will become without an object, and what is done while awake will become with an object. Therefore, there will be a difference between dreams and wakefulness. If that is the case, the saying that all dharmas are like dreams will be invalidated. To refute this view, what is said is seeing and hearing, etc. For new objects of focus, regardless of whether entities exist in the ultimate sense or not, in dreams and wakefulness, the mind also arises following seeing, hearing, feeling, and knowing. When the mind arises in that way, some minds become fruitless, some minds become small in fruit, some minds completely cling to afflictions, and some minds tend towards purification. What is to be said? For the bodies of walking, time, and combination, due to the lack of perfection and the influence of obstacles such as drowsiness, consciousness arises from the object of slightly seeing, etc. How can it become fruitless or small in fruit? Venerable Subhuti, when, etc. The meaning is that the saying that all dharmas are empty of self-nature is liberated from the object of karma, the object of thought, and the emptiness of self-nature. For that, how can one establish having an object or not having an object? Therefore, it is called emptiness.
English
Kya-ba (Tibetan) is without inherent existence. Subhuti said: 'Having made it an object,' and so on, the meaning is this. Here, the great Bodhisattva who sees without an object is not transformed from the occasion. To act with an object is very appropriate here. Therefore, because of that and non-discrimination, it is said that having an object and not having an object are necessarily shown. 'Sign also' (Tibetan) means the object of the target. Among them, whatever is not completely known is because of all afflictions; whatever is completely known is because of complete purification. Thus, how is it that ignorance and so on become a state of non-discrimination, that is, from that very nature, it is said: 'Conditioned by ignorance, actions,' and so on. Among them, taking the absence of deluded mind as a measure, it is made the object of the target, which is the meaning. It arises in dependence on worldly conventions. 'Convention' (Tibetan) means not depending on the ultimate truth itself. 'Arises' (Tibetan) means it arises from a pure mind that has an object. Furthermore, the other previous view stated by the Venerable Shariputra is, 'When the Venerable Subhuti,' and so on. The meaning is that, for the time being, let alone the Sarva Bodhisattva, if a Bodhisattva whose continuum is completely matured makes offerings in a dream, and his dream and waking are the same, then just like when awake, in the dream, giving and so on, as well as rejoicing and dedication, will be done well. 'Venerable Shariputra, this,' and so on. At that time nearby, in order for beings to be tamed with love to be accepted, in order to understand that intention together with oneself, the noble Maitreya abandons that previous view. 'Manifesting with the body' means that the noble one who has entered cessation is said to manifest with the body. Because there is no effort of mind, the body itself manifests that samadhi. Thus, starting from the eighth bhumi.

Thus, the Bodhisattva becomes absorbed in the samadhi of no appearance, no sign, and no cause. Thereafter, without any effort of mind, merely by the existence of the body, he abides in the samadhi of no sign, constantly. Therefore, it is said that the Bodhisattva manifests the body. The statement "will answer this meaning" refers to this preliminary. The statement "will answer" means to completely abandon. The term "Invincible One" is another name for Maitreya. The venerable Subhuti and others spoke this. For a Bodhisattva whose mindstream is fully matured by seeing the unapprehendable, even in dreams and waking states, generosity and so forth, rejoicing and dedication and so forth, are not truly existent in their own nature. Therefore, by means of non-existence, one knowingly engages in the preliminary practice, which is to realize emptiness in the ultimate sense. Regarding the absence of a person or a dharma, with what intention do you speak when you say that Maitreya will answer this question? Holding onto a mere adventitious name, what are you saying? Or are you saying that form and so forth, or emptiness, will answer? The statement "will not answer at all" should be understood as meaning "will not answer." This very statement, spoken to approximate a single meaning obtained through circumlocution, means that emptiness cannot answer. The statement "which dharma will answer" refers to Maitreya. The statement "to which dharma will an answer be given" refers to the question. The statement "by which dharma will an answer be given" refers to Shariputra. The statement "which dharma" refers to speech. Have you directly realized these dharmas in this way? This was said by the venerable Shariputra. If you have directly realized these in this way, then, given that they already exist, the object to be realized and the act of realization would become distinct objects of focus. Therefore, the noble Maitreya separately stated, "I have not." At the time of direct realization, these dharmas are not objects of focus. They are to be spoken.
