The so-called "earth" refers to the emptiness of the essence of the nature of mind. Therefore, what is said, "From that, the emptiness of all dharmas is of the same taste, what is distraction or exhaustion?" means without distraction and inexhaustible. In some places, the text says: Subhuti, those minds that are distracted by the nature of dharma, because they have no characteristics, those minds are inexhaustible, completely inexhaustible, not distracted, those minds are truly and completely known as they are. Among them, "from the nature of dharma" means from emptiness. "Distraction" refers to the conventional truth. What is the ultimate truth like? It is inexhaustible, because it has abandoned the moments. Completely inexhaustible, because the continuum has no cessation. The so-called "not distracted" means that there is no true arising of going outward. Why is it said that this is such an aspect? It refers to "no characteristics," meaning that it is empty of its own characteristics. To expand the unobtainability of the mind in other ways: Subhuti, furthermore, "all-pervasive afflictions" means truly combined with afflictions, truly arising, therefore all-pervasive afflictions are unwholesome. "It is not that all-pervasive afflictions transform by all-pervasive afflictions," those are the all-pervasive afflictions that have been extinguished, because the things of all-pervasive afflictions do not exist ultimately. All-pervasive afflictions are because they enter with inverted superimposition. There is no interpretive establishment because there is no discrimination ultimately. The so-called "those minds that have not transformed into all-pervasive afflictions" refers to the virtuous dharmas that are the antidotes to afflictions. "Self-luminous nature" means: The nature of mind is self-luminous, free from defilement, constantly without all-pervasive afflictions, because it is emptiness. The so-called "despondency" means having afflictions, because it is truly combined with laziness. The so-called "groundless despondency," groundless means without a basis, because it is despondent merely by being groundless. The mind is despondent, it is not the nature of mind, that is the nature of emptiness.

English

Because you are not lazy. The term "minds that are fully grasped" refers to virtuous qualities, because of diligence and proper application. What they say about the ultimate nature is "not grasped," because it is the essence of emptiness from Suchness (tathatā). What is not to be fully grasped is not diligent and proper application. The term "with outflows" means that outflows are the afflictions. Being associated with those states of dormancy, it is with outflows. The term "without own-being" means that what exists in one's own self is own-being, and because it is absent, it is without own-being. Why is it without own-being? It is said to be "like non-existence," because it is conceptualizing things that do not exist, such as grasping. By the nature of emptiness, who knows the minds without outflows, meaning that they know the ultimate truth of those. The outflow-free are the antidote to the outflows. The term "inclined towards no-own-being" means because it is separated from all own-beings. No-own-being is inclined towards the perfectly established own-being, and because these have it, it is said that way. The meaning of the expression "measuring without things" is also the same. The term "spontaneously accomplished" is because there is no conceptualization. The term "those with attachment" means being properly associated with attachment, that is, with attachment. Maitreya, the meaning of "whatever mind is with attachment and has attachment" is that here, minds with attachment are minds with attachment, truly knowing, if attachment and mind are with attachment, if understood in that way, it is not truly knowing. The term "the mind's attachment and having attachment," if it is the Dharma as it is, then the emptiness of the mind's own-being is also the Dharma as it is. The Tathagata's (tathāgata) extremely pure wisdom or mind does not see the phenomena arising from the mind, such as attachment, nor does it see having attachment, because that is the place of attachment and so on.
