That, knowing the unborn, is the knowledge of subsequent purification. By directly realizing liberation, focusing on that is called knowing the Dharma. Impermanence and so on are inferred, therefore, the knowledge that focuses on them is called the knowledge of subsequent realization. Because it focuses only on a small part of what is conceived, knowing the minds of others is called conventional knowledge. What is called familiarization knowledge, familiarization is to make familiar, which has the same meaning as cultivation. Familiarization also has the same meaning as subduing all evil and unwholesome dharmas. Among them, in the distinction of the former meaning, knowing by truly accomplishing is called familiarization. In the distinction of the second meaning, knowing that all sins have been subdued and exhausted is familiarization knowledge, therefore it is said to be knowing the path and knowing the exhaustion. Among them, the former familiarization knowledge is briefly summarized in the following explanation, so it is not repeated. What is called knowing according to sound? It means that the Tathagata knows all sounds, etc. Sound is speech, consciousness and discrimination are its synonyms. Whatever language of sentient beings such as hell beings, animals, humans, and gods, and whatever speech, the discrimination of them is called knowing according to sound. What are called the three faculties? These three faculties are the Great Vehicle, because those of the Hearer and Solitary Buddha vehicles have power over the pure dharmas, etc., and abide in liberation. The faculty that enables universal knowledge is on the path of seeing. The faculty of universal knowledge is on both. The faculty endowed with universal knowledge is on the path of no more learning. What is called subduing pride without appearance? It means that on the path of seeing, except for Suchness, Bodhisattvas do not see the appearance of all dharmas, therefore it is called without appearance. It is called subduing pride in order to abandon afflictions. What is called with investigation and with analysis, etc., in Samadhi, one should understand the coarse, medium, and subtle aspects of the mind's movement.

In short, that which has investigation and has analysis is great. That which has no analysis but has investigation is middling. That which has no analysis and no investigation is subtle. Mindfulness and meditation, as well as the immeasurables, are for the sake of fully maturing sentient beings, gathering them, obtaining power, and fully maturing the Buddhas' Dharma, and so forth. Among these, the so-called four immeasurables refer to being called immeasurable because they focus on immeasurable sentient beings, become the cause of immeasurable merit, become the cause of obtaining immeasurable Dharma, and become the object of immeasurable wisdom. Among these, loving-kindness is of three types: on the ground of practice with faith, loving-kindness focuses on the ground of practice with faith. From the first ground to the seventh ground, it focuses on suchness. From the eighth ground onwards, there is no focus. Compassion is also of three types: focusing on suffering sentient beings, focusing on sentient beings with many misdeeds, and focusing on sentient beings who have not been liberated due to lacking conditions. Joy is also of three types: focusing on happy sentient beings, focusing on the completion of one's own accumulation of merit, and focusing on tasting the flavor of the sacred Dharma. Equanimity is also of three types: focusing on those who have a share and those who do not have a share in the benefit of sentient beings, focusing on equality towards worldly phenomena such as gain and loss, and focusing on the appropriate and inappropriate times for accomplishing the completion of merit. Among these, the so-called mind endowed with loving-kindness indicates the one who possesses qualities. The so-called vastness and so forth indicate the qualities themselves. The one who possesses qualities is also of three types: namely, greatness, the nature of oneness, and abandoning harm. Greatness is also shown in three ways: namely, intention, increase, and object. Among these, greatness through intention refers to what is said to be vast. Greatness through increase refers to what is said to have become great and vast. Greatness through object refers to being called immeasurable because it focuses on immeasurable sentient beings. Because of non-discrimination and the oneness of loving-kindness, the nature of oneness is non-duality.
