Emptiness is characterized by the non-apprehension of inherent existence. The term 'non-apprehension' signifies that there is no phenomenon that transforms into something else. The nature of non-things, which is emptiness, is explained in two ways. The first explanation is: Subhuti, the nature of phenomena arising from aggregation is empty. If asked, how is this taught? The answer is: Here, when all phenomena arise, they do not arise solely from their own power, but arise from the power of causes and conditions. For example, when a seed produces a sprout, it does not produce it solely by its own power, but by the power of the aggregation of earth, water, and so on. Similarly, all phenomena arise from the power of the aggregation of causes and conditions. Because they do not arise solely from their own power, they are merely dependent arising. Whatever phenomena arise in dependence on other phenomena, even if they are of the nature of form and feeling, etc., they arise from the aggregation of causes and conditions, and are therefore called 'arising from aggregation.' How can that which arises from aggregation be called self-nature? Therefore, all phenomena arise from other things, so they have no self-thing, and are therefore without self-nature. Because there is no self-thing, it is called the nature of non-things. Therefore, Subhuti, the nature of phenomena arising from aggregation is empty, because it is dependent arising. Thus it is taught. This is the nature of non-things of all phenomena, and the nature of non-things is called emptiness. Another explanation is: Things are empty of things. Non-things are empty of non-things. Things and self-nature are things and self-nature. Things and non-self-nature are things and non-self-nature. In this conceptualization, the term 'non-things' signifies the understanding that there are no things, and therefore both things and non-things are apprehended. The term 'without self-nature' signifies the understanding that it is not one's own thing, and therefore both other things and one's own thing are apprehended. Regarding these four emptinesses,

The nature of non-things is called emptiness. Because it arises from that, it is called things. The term "things" refers to conditioned dharmas. Therefore, it is said that things are empty of things. The term "non-things" refers to unconditioned dharmas. Therefore, it is said that non-things are empty of non-things. In this regard, the dharma of things is separate from the nature of things, and the dharma of non-things is also separate from the nature of non-things, which is the terminology. Nature refers to knowing and seeing. Because the remaining completely accomplished state after completely abandoning the state of all discriminations of dharmas is the nature of knowing and seeing, it is called that. In this regard, whatever is the emptiness of knowing is not made by knowing. Whatever is the emptiness of seeing is also made by seeing. Therefore, the emptiness of those two natures is self-nature, so it is called self-nature emptiness. Whether the Tathagatas appear or do not appear, this means that whatever is the characteristic of existence, suchness, and dharmata, that is not made by others such as the Tathagatas. There is no other maker, and it is called the emptiness of other things. Then, in order to distinguish the state of the great vehicle of samadhi, the samadhi called "courageous going" and so on are spoken. Whatever performs the action of samadhi like a hero, and experiences the sphere of all samadhis, and pervades everywhere, that is called courageous going. In this regard, the non-discrimination, uncontaminated, and supramundane mind of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas does not perform actions related to discrimination, and is not distracted, but mainly acts, therefore it is called samadhi. That samadhi is also not the nature of dhyana, because dhyana belongs to the practice when there is form. Although it becomes one in the nature of mind, it is beneficial to act separately due to the power of previous habituation, therefore, it is different due to the power of acting.

It is said. Moreover, these are not the objects of other people's conceptualizations, because they are known individually by oneself. These should also be accepted as they are stated in the sutras, and they should not be analyzed with reason. Furthermore, Subhuti, the Great Vehicle of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is like this: the four mindfulnesses. The reason it is called mindfulness is because mindfulness abides in it. The four mindfulnesses are body, feeling, mind, and phenomena, and these four are referred to as the words of mindfulness. Because it is mindfulness and also mindfulness, it is said to be mindfulness, because one does not forget the objects of the four dharmas, and for the sake of guarding, it is the four mindfulnesses, because it becomes the four objects, so it is called the four mindfulnesses. Here, all four of these mindfulnesses have been previously taught as aspects of the Great Vehicle. Only the mindfulness of the body was later taught in six ways, in accordance with the aspects of the Hearers, namely, "abiding by observing the body in the inner body," which means that when observing the body that is counted as an inner sentient being, then it is called "observing the body in the inner body." When the form body is not counted as an outer sentient being, then it is called "observing the body in the outer body." When it is counted as an outer sentient being, observing the body of another, then it is called "observing the body in the inner and outer body." When feeling, mind, and phenomena arise from focusing on the form body that is counted as an inner sentient being, then it is called "inner feeling, inner mind, and inner phenomena." When it arises from focusing on the form body that is not counted as an outer sentient being, then it is called "outer feeling, outer mind, and outer phenomena." When it arises from focusing on the form body of another who is counted as a sentient being, then it is called "inner and outer feeling, inner and outer mind, and inner and outer phenomena." Alternatively, for those who focus on the six sense bases, it is called "observing the body in the inner body." Not becoming
