That is, conditioned dharmas and the very nature of dharmata. Because in the state of dharmata, it is not the nature of all afflictions, so it is not possessed either. Because it is not the characteristic of complete purification, it is also not unpossessed. The so-called "non-conceptualization" is like this, because there is no conceptualization, there is no conceptualization, which shows that there is no grasping characteristic. The so-called "cannot be shown" is like this, because it cannot be said, it cannot be shown to others by words and understood. These two show that there is no grasping characteristic and no grasped characteristic. The so-called "unobstructed" is because, like the object of the senses, there is no characteristic of obstruction. Like this, the so-called "one characteristic in no characteristic" means that being separated from all characteristics is the characteristic of no characteristic, which is a synonym. The so-called "should learn non-attachment and non-existence" means that because of attachment to bodhi, or because of grasping bodhi as a real thing, it is called a bodhisattva. In order to dispel these two kinds of distinctions, one should learn the characteristic of non-attachment to all dharmas and the characteristic of non-reality, which is a synonym. The so-called "because of no conceptualization and no consideration" means that if one examines, the mind of existence will arise because of the cause of distinction. If one considers, attachment will arise because of the cause of faith. Therefore, because there is no conceptualization, it will become non-existent, and because there is no consideration, it will become non-attached, and it should be connected in this way. The so-called "to comprehend all dharmas in a non-dual way" is the grasped and the grasper, the speaker and the spoken, birth and cessation, real and unreal, dharma and non-dharma, conditioned and unconditioned, mundane and supramundane, and so on, which is a synonym for being separated from the meaning of two. Thus, after explaining the meaning of the word bodhisattva, in order to explain the meaning of the word great bodhisattva, World Honored One, for what reason is a bodhisattva called a great bodhisattva? What does a bodhisattva have?

The reason for calling someone a "Great Bodhisattva" is, what is the reason for using the name "Great Bodhisattva"? This is a question. Regarding this, the Blessed One, the Venerable Shariputra, the Venerable Subhuti, and the Venerable Purna have four different views. First, the Blessed One's view is that because this person is worthy of being a Great Bodhisattva among all sentient beings, they are called a Great Bodhisattva. Therefore, they will become someone who greatly benefits the masses of sentient beings and the many kinds of sentient beings. The Venerable Shariputra's view is that because they understand that all dharmas are without substance and are not truly existent, they are called a Great Bodhisattva. Because they see that all dharmas are without names, in order to eliminate attachment to views of self and so on, as well as extreme views such as annihilationism, and views of the aggregates and so on, up to the various discriminations and views between the ultimate view of nirvana, they teach the Dharma to others. The Venerable Subhuti's view is that the reason for calling this person a Great Bodhisattva is that they have no attachment or obstruction to Bodhisattvas, and are very great. Therefore, the sutra shows that they abide in a state of non-attachment through statements such as "There is no attachment to that mind either." The Venerable Purna's view is that because they have donned great armor, entered into great practice, and obtained great fruit, they are called a Great Bodhisattva. Therefore, the sutra shows that they have donned great armor, correctly entered the Great Vehicle, and abide in the Great Vehicle. Among them, first, the Blessed One's statement of "greatly benefiting the masses of sentient beings" refers to the qualities from the individual of the lineage ground up to the ground of the Pratyekabuddha, speaking from the perspective of merit. The so-called "many kinds of sentient beings" refers to the kinds of Bodhisattvas, becoming their object, also because their aspiration is vast and their practice is great. The so-called vast aspiration refers to having a vajra-like mind, adorned with five qualities, namely, certainly subduing, precious, without fault, indivisible, and accomplishing benefit. The so-called certainly subduing refers to wisdom.
