How should one instruct and follow the Prajñāpāramitā? And, the so-called Bodhisattva, this is just a name. The so-called I, I, the I is extremely unestablished. Since all dharmas are of the nature of non-entity, then what is form? Up to what is consciousness? Form is unestablished, what is unestablished? How should one instruct and follow the Prajñāpāramitā to the unestablished? Apart from the unestablished, a Bodhisattva is not visible. If it is taught in this way, the great mind of the Bodhisattva will not be discouraged or fearful, such a great Bodhisattva is practicing the Prajñāpāramitā. What is a Bodhisattva? What is Prajñāpāramitā? What is Parikalpita? Why are form, etc., not born, is that not form, etc.? Why do form, etc., diminish, is that not form, etc.? Why are form, etc., not counted as two? These twenty-eight questions, and the content of the two elders asking questions in segments and answering in detail later, should be grasped, and up to the chapter of asking Kauśika, it should be understood as being definitive. Among them, the meaning of the word Subhuti Bodhisattva is the meaning of baselessness, and there are four meanings for Bodhisattvas: Bodhi, Sattva, the nature of the aggregates, namely the conventional Bodhisattva and the ultimate Bodhisattva. All four of these are of the nature of non-entity, therefore, the meaning of the word Bodhisattva is the meaning of baselessness. The meaning of baselessness is to have no place to dwell. If the Bodhisattva is of the nature of some entity, then

If the meaning of a word changes by having a basis and a place, then, like this, there would be no Bodhi, no Bodhisattva, and no Bodhisattva. Therefore, the basis of the meaning of the word Bodhisattva is non-existent, and the term for that is 'without a place.' In order to distinguish that meaning, Bodhi is unborn and the Bodhisattva is also unborn. Subhuti, the birth and existence of Bodhi and Bodhisattva are non-existent and unattainable. Among these, Bodhi is unborn because it is unconditioned. The Bodhisattva is also unborn because it is non-existent. Therefore, Subhuti, 'Bodhi is unborn' is said, and 'the Bodhisattva is also unattainable in its very existence' is said, and these should be connected separately. After that, in order to unravel the sound of the meaning of the words, it is said, 'Subhuti, Bodhi has no basis, and the Bodhisattva has no basis.' Furthermore, in this way, the meaning of the word Bodhisattva is explained as 'basis and meaning.' Therefore, the absence of a basis is concluded with the statement, 'the meaning of the basis is the basis.' After that, in order to show that the meaning of the word Bodhisattva has no basis in eleven aspects, it is said, 'Subhuti, it is like the tracks of birds in the sky are non-existent and unattainable.' Among these, there is no basis for conceptualizing Bodhi, no basis for what is called the imagined Bodhisattva, no basis separate from Bodhi, no basis separate from conventional Bodhisattva, no basis for the Bodhisattva of Suchness, no basis for Bodhisattva, no basis for Bodhi in Bodhisattva, no meaning of the basis called Bodhi, no meaning of the word Bodhisattva of Suchness in the imagined Bodhisattva, no meaning of the word Bodhisattva of the imagined in the meaningless Bodhisattva, and no basis for the ultimate Bodhisattva. Among these, in order to show that Bodhi has no basis for conceptualization, it is said, 'Subhuti, it is like the tracks of birds in the sky are non-existent and unattainable.' Just as birds in the sky...

Those causes (of afflictions) do not exist after them, similarly, for enlightenment which is the nature of suchness, the causes of various discriminations will not exist in it either, this is the concluding remark. After that, in order to show that the basis of the conventional Bodhisattva does not exist, the Blessed One said: Subhuti, for example, dreams have no basis and are invisible, and so on. For example, dreams, illusions, mirages, gandharva cities, eye flowers, images, and emanations have no basis, because they are completely non-existent. Similarly, Bodhisattvas also have no basis, because they are also non-existent, this is the concluding remark. After that, in order to show that there is no existence anywhere apart from enlightenment, the Blessed One said: Subhuti, for example, suchness has no basis, and so on. Just as there is no basis apart from suchness and non-erroneous suchness, similarly, there is no basis apart from enlightenment, this is the concluding remark. After that, in order to show that the basis of the conventional Bodhisattva does not exist, the Blessed One said: Subhuti, for example, the form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness of a magical person have no basis, and so on. Just as a person who is the nature of illusion does not have the five aggregates, because he is completely non-existent. Similarly, the conventional Bodhisattva also does not have the basis of the five aggregates, this is the concluding remark. After that, in order to show that the Dharma-nature Bodhisattva does not have the five aggregates, and so on, the Blessed One said: Subhuti, for example, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, does not have the basis of form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, and so on. Just as the Tathagata of the Dharma-body does not have the five aggregates, and so on, similarly, the ultimate Bodhisattva also does not have the five aggregates, and so on, this is the concluding remark. After that, in order to show that there is no basis of the Bodhisattva in enlightenment, the Blessed One said: Subhuti, for example, in the unconditioned realm there is no conditioned realm.
