It should not be said that they will be born in the world made of earth. The meaning should be extensively explained by the order arising from other sutras. Here, the Thus-Gone One perfectly sees that some sentient beings are of definite lineage, while others are of indefinite lineage. Among them, those who are of definite lineage do not need to be told that they will achieve it by the distinction of lineage itself. The Thus-Gone One sees that those sentient beings who are of indefinite lineage, if they find the conditions, have a share of the three enlightenments according to the conditions, and therefore wishes to gradually liberate them from samsara. Seeing that they are heavily afflicted and dull-witted, and do not have the power to practice the excellent conduct of a Bodhisattva, he therefore first causes those sentient beings to enter the path that becomes the cause of the near pacification of afflictions. Since Suchness and Nirvana are not different, he causes them to enter the state of directly realizing Suchness Nirvana. After causing them to enter in this way, he also teaches them ethics, concentration, and wisdom, so that they gradually directly realize Suchness Nirvana. This is also called the Ground of Seeing, and it should also be known as the Path of Stream-Enterer. Then, he also causes them to enter the state of abandoning desire and hatred towards desire. These noble ones, by thinning desire and hatred towards desire, will realize Suchness. This is also called the Ground of Thinning, and it should also be known as the Path of Once-Returner. Then, by causing them to enter the state of completely abandoning these, they realize Suchness and accomplish the third state of being free from desire. This is also called the Path of Non-Returner. Then, he also causes them to enter the state of abandoning the desire for form, the desire for the formless, pride, excitement, and the remaining ignorance, and by realizing Suchness, they will realize the ground of protecting what has been done. This is also called the Path of Arhat. For all beings, he also causes them to enter these states, and in this way, he teaches the Dharma so that they may generate a great desire for Buddhahood in any way possible. Then, those who desire Buddhahood will...

When all afflictions have been abandoned on the ground of one who is protected by diligence, the habitual tendencies of ignorance have not been abandoned. Because they have not been abandoned, all the habitual tendencies of affliction have also not been abandoned. Then, the Tathagata teaches the bodhisattva vehicle to those ones. Through that teaching, they also become those with minds capable of completely perfecting the conduct of a bodhisattva, having thoroughly tamed their faculties. Gradually, they will also obtain tolerance of the profound dharma. Thus, on the buddha ground, with a determined mind, all afflictions abandoned, having thoroughly realized the realm of reality, having obtained tolerance of the profound dharma, the Tathagata prophesies them to buddhahood. From that time on, they become great bodhisattvas abiding in the eighth ground, non-conceptual, spontaneously accomplished. When those ones have become like that, they take another rebirth and practice the conduct of a bodhisattva, maturing sentient beings, and they themselves also mature the buddha dharma. Furthermore, how do they take rebirth? In two ways: through the power of conditions and the power of causes. Among these, that which has not abandoned the habitual tendencies of affliction is the condition for connecting to rebirth in the future. Those uncontaminated roots of virtue that arise from the cause of contaminated roots of virtue are the causes for making rebirth. Those ones should be understood as it is said in the sutras. What are those afflictions that are the cause of the ocean of intelligence continuing in samsara, endowed with similarity to roots of virtue? Like this, not being satisfied with seeking accumulations of merit, and completely holding onto intentionally taking birth in existence, and wishing to meet with buddhas, and not being weary of maturing sentient beings, and being diligent in completely holding onto the sacred dharma, and being delighted in thinking about what activities sentient beings have, and not abandoning the predispositions of desiring dharma, and not abandoning the application to the perfections. Ocean of intelligence, those ones are the afflictions endowed with similarity to roots of virtue. Bodhisattvas, although they are afflicted by those ones, are not stained by the faults of affliction. Aspiration!
