If one knows and agrees with Shariputra's words, what will be shown? If karma does not arise without an object, but you discriminate when awake, saying that that karma has superiority or decrease, that is unreasonable. Here, the remaining argument is that if karma does not arise without an object, then what is done in a dream becomes without an object, and what is done while not asleep becomes with an object, so there will be a difference between dream and not being asleep. In that case, the statement that all dharmas are like dreams will collapse. Therefore, in order to eliminate that argument, the Venerable Subhuti said: The mind engages with the dharmas of seeing, hearing, distinguishing, and knowing, but the mind does not engage with the dharmas of not seeing, not hearing, not distinguishing, and not knowing. Among them, some minds completely grasp afflictions, and some minds completely grasp purification. Thus, for novices who practice with objects, without examining whether things exist or not in ultimate reality, even in dreams and when not asleep, they follow seeing, hearing, distinguishing, and knowing and engage their minds. When the mind engages in this way, some minds have no result, some have great results, some have small results, some completely grasp afflictions, some do not grasp, some completely grasp purification, and some do not grasp. What will this show? This will show that one should know that this changes due to the power of going, time, combination, the perfection and decline of bodies, sleep, and so on, and separation from conditions. The Blessed One said, 'Reverend Subhuti, all actions are peaceful, and all minds are peaceful.' What does this mean? Because it will appear that all dharmas are peaceful in their own nature, if actions and minds are peaceful in their own nature, then how should one examine whether they are with or without an object? That is what he thought. Then the Venerable Subhuti said: Reverend Sha
