Lapa asked: In suchness, is the mind elsewhere? This is asking, is the created mind different from suchness? The Blessed One replied: No. This is because the imputed nature is neither one nor different from the perfectly established nature, hence the reply again. Lapa asked: Is there mind in suchness? Is there suchness in mind? This is asking, are they mutually abiding and dependent things? The Blessed One replied: No. This is because the imputed nature and the perfectly established nature are not mutually abiding and dependent things, hence the reply again. Lapa asked: Does suchness see suchness as it is? This is asking, does the mind see all dharmas as they are? The Blessed One replied: No. This is because the state of suchness has no object and no subject, hence the reply again. The Blessed One asked: Who acts thus? This shows that one does not act in anything. The Blessed One asked: Who acts in the ultimate truth where duality does not arise together? This says that acting and not acting are two. Lapa asked: Does it destroy the conceptualization of signs? This is asking, is there no conceptualization of signs? The Blessed One replied: No. This is because the intention to destroy the conceptualization of signs, such a thought, does not arise, hence the reply again. Such a thought does not act in anything, and also by the power of the samadhi of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, one's own self does not conceptualize signs, thus it is shown. Lapa asked: Do those samadhis ripen sentient beings? This is by the power of skillful means, whoever also sees emptiness and so on, also ripens sentient beings, this is the power of skillful means. Lapa asked: If one enters into the samadhi of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness in a dream, that wisdom

The so-called "increasing through Prajñāpāramitā" is: Opening the occasion of the profound state, the two elders indicated the samādhi of the past. If all dharmas are without object, then when a Bodhisattva enters the three samādhis in a dream, can they increase through Prajñāpāramitā? If Prajñāpāramitā does not increase in a dream, but increases when not asleep, then for dharmas, is there only the difference of existence and non-existence between dream and not being asleep? Thinking this, he asked. Venerable Śāriputra, if it increases through meditation during the day, does it also increase in a dream? He asked this. Then, the elder Subhūti said: For a Bodhisattva, whether in a dream or when not asleep, it is the same that all dharmas are without object. Therefore, what is called a dream and what is called daytime are merely discriminations. Thus, he indicated that dream and not being asleep are the same. In this way, if daytime and dream are the same, if the samādhi of not being asleep can increase wisdom, then the samādhi of dream can also increase wisdom. He indicated this. Venerable Subhūti, if a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva does something in a dream, will that action increase or decrease? This refers to what the elder Śāriputra was thinking. If dharmas are the same during the day and in a dream, then among giving and so on in a dream, and obtaining the fruit of stream-entry in a dream, does the former increase virtuous actions, and the latter exhaust actions? Is there such a situation? Or is there not? He asked this. Then, the elder Subhūti said: If the Blessed One said that all dharmas are like a dream, then there will be no increase or decrease. The so-called increase and decrease change from something that exists, but all dharmas are like a dream, so whether in a dream or when not asleep, that action

O. If the agent does not exist in any way, why is it said that there is increase or decrease from it? Therefore, it is said that in a dream, no dharma increases or decreases. If someone sees in a dream that a river is completely filled with water, or sees that the ocean has dried up, is there increase or decrease from that? Just as there is no increase or decrease in a dream, so too when one is awake during the day, there is no increase or decrease in anything. This is what is being shown. Then, the Venerable Shariputra said, "If one discriminates after waking up, then there is also increase or decrease from that action." This is not spoken with regard to bodhisattvas who view without an object of focus and do not discriminate. Rather, it is asking whether those who are currently new and engage in discrimination, if they rejoice and think about the actions done in a dream when they are awake, whether there is increase or decrease in the actions done at night. Therefore, the Venerable Shariputra thought that there would be a difference between dreams and when one is not asleep. Then, the Venerable Subhuti said, "Venerable Shariputra, what do you say about someone who kills a living being during the day, or who kills a living being in a dream, and then thinks upon waking up, 'I killed him! It is good that I killed him!'?" This is said to be delusion. What is his intention? If someone kills a living being during the day or in a dream, when he has killed that being, if he rejoices in both of those actions with his mind, which has a greater result, the action of killing a living being during the day, or the action done in a dream? Then, Shariputra said, "Venerable Subhuti, it does not arise from the absence of an object of focus, and mind does not arise without an object of focus." The intention of this is that killing in a dream is of the nature of non-existence, therefore, the mind that focuses on it is focused on non-existence, therefore, there is no greater result from it. Then, the Venerable Subhuti said, "Yes, it is just so."
