If possible, how would that be reasonable? The manifestation of a Bodhisattva also appears as emptiness. The statement that it appears as healing itself means that I would not say that manifestation increases merit, nor would I say that the absence of manifestation increases merit. So, what should it be like? How should one always distinguish between emptiness and accumulation and depletion in all ways with regard to whatever merit manifestations of a Bodhisattva arise? If one distinguishes in that way, because it is inseparable from the Perfection of Wisdom, merit will increase immeasurably and innumerably. What is the difference? This is a question asked incidentally because the time is ripe. Subhuti, 'innumerable' means that which cannot be counted; that which cannot be counted by words is 'innumerable.' 'Immeasurable' means that which cannot be measured. That which cannot be completely determined by number, that which cannot be measured, is 'unlimited.' All three of these are distinctions of counting. The realm of number and the realm of the innumerable are synonyms for the realm of the conditioned and the realm of the unconditioned. 'Form is also emptiness, innumerable, immeasurable, unlimited' means that number and measure, etc., exist in conceptualizations, but do not exist in the essence of emptiness; this belongs to nomenclature. Therefore, in order to show that form is also emptiness, the word 'also' is spoken. The common cause explained by great compassion means that the explanation in conventional truth is a synonym for the common cause of compassion. Blessed One, all phenomena are also inexpressible,

Also, there is not. There is also no complete diminution due to the power of black dharma. If there is neither increase nor decrease in the perfections, etc., then by what cause does one become the all-knowing one? It is asked, how does one become a person destined to awaken to the unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment? After asking this, it is shown that one is transformed by the power of skillful means of completely dedicating with the final words, "Just as the unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment is, so I completely dedicate." O Blessed One, what is the unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment? It is the very nature of emptiness, which is not different from form, etc. It is asked again for the sake of teaching. By practicing the Perfection of Wisdom in a way that there is no increase or complete diminution, this shows that this alone is the practice of the Perfection of Wisdom. O Blessed One, why is it that a Bodhisattva Mahasattva attains the unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment upon generating the first thought of enlightenment? Or does he attain it without generating a subsequent thought? This is asking about the state of the profound place. If one attains the unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment by accumulating roots of virtue, then how does one accumulate roots of virtue? In this case, does a Bodhisattva attain enlightenment with the ultimate of the one who first generated the thought of enlightenment three countless eons ago? Or with the second? Or with the third? Or, when one is seated at the heart of enlightenment, does one attain enlightenment through the power of the thought generated last of all? In this case, one does not attain enlightenment with a single thought, because it does not have such power, and the remaining accumulations of merit would become meaningless. It is also not with all thoughts, because they are all of a destructive nature from moment to moment, and therefore cannot be accumulated, as it is taught. Here, the Blessed One showed the example of a lamp: When the wick of a lamp is burning, although it is of a destructive nature from moment to moment, the lamp

It should be said that all moments of fire are burned by power. Similarly, it is also shown that perfect complete enlightenment is also transformed by the power of all minds. Even if it is a moment, it is transformed by the accumulation of the habits of the formative aggregate, this is his thought. The ground where white is fully visible is the time of insight. The ground of lineage is the peak of worldly dharma. The eighth ground is the path of entering the stream. Its fruit is the ground of seeing. The thin ground is the ground of once-returner, because he makes the attachment and hatred towards desire thin. The ground of detachment from desire is the ground of non-returner, because he has abandoned both desire and hatred. The ground of knowing what has been done is the Arhat, because the work that should be done has been completed. The ground of the solitary Buddha is self-enlightenment. The ground of the Bodhisattva is knowing the appearance of the path. The ground of the Buddha is omniscience. Furthermore, with questions such as "Which mind has ceased, therefore will it be reborn?", the profound state is shown. What has ceased will not be reborn. What has been born is the law of destruction. What is the law of destruction, it will not be destroyed, suchness, as it is, it will also abide, and it will not abide permanently, this is the profound place. What has ceased will not be reborn, this refers to the cessation of self-nature, it refers to the unconditioned. What has been born is not the law of destruction, this refers to the conditioned. What is the law of destruction, it will not be destroyed, because there is no second destruction, so it is said. Similarly, it will also abide, this refers to suchness. It will not abide permanently, this is because there is no self-nature, so it is said. Subhuti, what do you think? Is that mind also suchness? This is asking, what is the conditioned mind, is it the nature of suchness? World-Honored One, no, this is the answer, because it has defilements, so it is not the nature of suchness, this is a reiteration.
