It should be known. The very nature of being transformed and abiding through four kinds of transformations, and being utterly and completely pure, is called the characteristic of being without universal defilement and without purification. Like illusion, dreams, and cataracts, the very nature of being incompletely established and without entities is called the characteristic of being without substance. Being free from all pervasive thoughts and discriminations, and being inexpressible in the ultimate sense, therefore, like space, not abiding anywhere, is called the characteristic of non-abiding. Because of completely abandoning the prior extreme, the later extreme, and the middle extreme, therefore, being free from entities of existence and non-existence, the very nature of being completely liberated by nature is called the characteristic of being without cessation and without permanence. Because of abandoning all diverse discriminations, therefore, being non-dual, the very nature of being free from diversity and unity is called the characteristic of not being the same meaning and not being a different meaning. Because of abandoning all effort, therefore, there is no manifest agent, therefore, the very nature of being free from going and coming is called the characteristic of being without coming and without going. In all ways, everything is free from all its own characteristics, abiding in the nature of being without characteristics, is called the characteristic of space. The Tathagata has taught it in worldly terms, but it is not so in the ultimate sense, it is called the characteristic of being inexpressible. Sons of the gods, those characteristics cannot be changed by the world including gods, humans, and asuras, it is called the characteristic of being completely established by being unchangeable and completely established by being non-inverted. Sons of the gods, characteristics do not make other characteristics, it is called the synonym of suchness not disturbing suchness. Characteristics do not know characteristics, it is called suchness not knowing suchness, just as space does not know space. Characteristics do not know non-characteristics, it is called suchness not knowing the imputed, just as space does not know rabbit horns. Non-characteristics do not know characteristics, it is called the imputed not knowing suchness.
