It is said. Therefore, because of the power of aspiration that is perfectly accomplished, it is said that from countless kalpas, it is diligently practiced through the path of maturation. Thus, diligent practice is to show the common cause of abiding with immeasurable [qualities] for sentient beings, and the common cause of abiding in supernormal knowledge by those who go to the Buddha-fields, and so on, the qualities of the common cause shown in other sutras. Among them, the common cause of loving-kindness is: having a smiling face. This is the nature of those who have definitely entered into practice, and they will have a smiling face in life after life. For example, in order to make unruly sentient beings happy and trusting, there will never be a change of face in any situation. In order to show the common cause of compassion, it is said, "Speaking frankly." Bodhisattvas, even to those who come suddenly and are unfamiliar, will gather them with joyful words, giving first and not later. In order to show the common cause of great joy, it is said, "A face without anger and wrinkles." This is the nature of things; whoever's face becomes angry and wrinkled will not have such discomfort. There is no such thing as becoming weary of initiating diligent practice. There is no such thing as becoming unbearable to others. Such mental disturbance does not arise. Now, in order to show the qualities of the common cause of abiding in supernormal knowledge by those who go to the Buddha-fields, such as being skilled in expressing to others in the rhythm of verses, etc., when a Bodhisattva goes to the Buddha-field, on the way, he himself or an emanation will teach the Dharma to others in the rhythm of verses and properly exhort them. Having arrived in the presence of the Thus-Gone One, he also praises in the rhythm of verses and answers the questions asked. This shows the attainment of complete purification of speech. In order to show the attainment of complete purification of mind, it is said, "Having a mind without discouragement." Some Bodhisattvas who are on the lower grounds, because their accumulations are not completely complete and because their attention is accompanied by conceptual thought, abide on the upper ground with the hand of merit.

These Bodhisattvas of the earth, as well as those who generate a mind of timidity before the Tathagatas, are because they have obtained the ten freedoms of life, mind, resources, karma, birth, aspiration, faith, miraculous power, wisdom, and dharma, which are extremely pure. In order to show that they never have a timid mind at any time, the merit called "without timidity" is proclaimed. In order to show that those who understand the truth obtain the four unimpeded understandings that are mature, the merit called "inexhaustible eloquence" is proclaimed. Therefore, this is called a great speaker of the Dharma. As it is said in the sutra: "The Bodhisattva who abides in the Bodhisattva ground called 'Good Wisdom' is a great speaker of the Dharma. He can also protect the Dharma treasury of the Tathagata." The Bodhisattva who has obtained the position of a speaker of the Dharma, because he possesses immeasurable wisdom, teaches the Dharma with the words accomplished by the four unimpeded understandings. Therefore, the four unimpeded understandings of the Bodhisattva constantly and continuously arise, and so on. It is also said that he is proficient in having countless hundreds of thousands of branches of sound, and possesses immeasurable doors of differentiation of eloquence, and teaches the Dharma with this. Therefore, the merit called "inexhaustible eloquence" is proclaimed. In order to show that he has obtained proficiency in entering the assembly, the merit called "possessing fearlessness that overwhelms the boundless retinue" is proclaimed. Thus, according to the order spoken in the "Ten Bhumi Sutra," he is proficient in immeasurable miraculous powers, proficient in immeasurable wisdom, proficient in immeasurable eloquence, proficient in immeasurable light array, proficient in immeasurable answering questions, proficient in immeasurable expression of branches of sound, proficient in immeasurable Dharma teachings, proficient in immeasurable doors of samadhi and dharani, proficient in immeasurable secret conduct, proficient in immeasurable differentiation of Dharma doors, proficient in immeasurable miracles, and freedom.
