Then, is the unborn also like that? This is asking: Just as what is attained and directly realized, is the unborn also non-existent in the ultimate sense? The son of the venerable Sharadvati replied: Yes, it is like that. This is because the ultimate truth is ungraspable and inexpressible, so the unborn also has no aspect of being unborn, this is to show this. Now, in order to also negate birth, the son of the venerable Sharadvati said: Therefore, birth also does not arise, and the unborn also does not arise. The unborn is the perfectly established, therefore it does not arise. Birth is the completely imputed, because it is non-existent, it does not arise. Therefore, this term also says that there is no birth. Venerable Subhuti, do you dare to say that the unborn dharma is the unborn dharma? Venerable Subhuti, do you dare to say that the non-arising of the unborn dharmas? To this question, both the terms unborn and non-arising are known as synonyms of suchness. When these two are distinguished by the term dharma, and it is said that the unborn dharma and the non-arising dharma, then it becomes a term of the completely imputed dharma. When asked: Is it permissible to say that? At that time, the elder Subhuti thought: Are the terms unborn and non-arising also known as terms of complete imputation? Then he replied: Son of the venerable Sharadvati, I do not have the courage to say that the unborn dharma is the unborn dharma. I also do not have the courage to say that the non-arising of the unborn dharmas. After that, it is shown that both the unborn and the non-arising are completely imputed, son of the venerable Sharadvati, that is because, whatever is the unborn dharma, whatever is non-arising, whatever is courage, whatever is saying, whatever is non-arising, all these dharmas are neither existent nor non-existent, they are formless, invisible, and unimpeded. Like this, with no characteristic as the characteristic, this is saying the unborn dharma and the non-arising.

The term "proclaimed" indicates these six dharmas: unborn, unproduced, unarisen, dharma, proclamation, and expression. All of these are conceptually imputed, hence the concluding remark of "non-existence." If an existing dharma is mind-born, or non-associated with mind, or corporeal, or unconditioned, then the phrase "it is also not existent therein" indicates that it does not exist as a mind-born entity. The phrase "not non-associated" indicates that it does not exist as an entity non-associated with mind. The phrase "not corporeal" indicates that it does not exist as a corporeal entity, like the eleven forms of color, such as non-manifestation. The phrase "cannot be shown" indicates that it does not exist as an entity that can be shown like color. The phrase "unobstructed" indicates that it does not come as the characteristic of sense objects. The phrase "in this way, without characteristics, they are of one characteristic" indicates that it does not exist as the characteristic of the unconditioned. There is no such thing as the characteristic of the unconditioned. Because it does not exist, it is liberated from the characteristics of existence and non-existence, therefore it is without characteristics, that is, in the characteristic of no characteristic, it is the concluding remark of being of one characteristic. Then, again, the venerable Shariputra asks whether what is said, and so on, is also the nature of non-arising. Venerable Subhuti, is what is said also unborn? Is proclamation also unborn? Are the dharmas also unborn? Are those dharmas that are proclaimed from which one begins to proclaim also unborn? That is to say, is everything that is said, proclaimed, and the dharmas to be proclaimed, the nature of non-arising? This is the concluding remark. Then, the venerable Subhuti promises that it is so, it is so, all of these are the nature of non-arising. Son of the venerable Sharadvatiputra, yes, it is so, what is said is unborn, proclamation is unborn, dharma is unborn, and those dharmas that are proclaimed from which one begins to proclaim are also unborn. Having said that, form...

By "unborn" etc., it shows that everything is the nature of unborn, and it also shows the previously stated explanation of unborn. Regarding this teaching, one should also remember that the five faults mentioned earlier will also arise without any difference, etc. In order to answer this, it is said, "The son of the venerable Sharadvati, in this way, the five faults will also arise without any difference, etc." How does the son of the venerable Sharadvati obtain, and the realization that exists in worldly terms, such as this, refers to the fact that in the ultimate sense, there is neither attainment nor realization, and there are no stream-enterers, etc. Similarly, the three vehicles are merely suchness, therefore, in the ultimate sense, there is no difference in the result, this is the summary of this statement. If so, then previously, when completing the accumulation of merit in three countless eons, there are also differences in karma, and corresponding differences in maturation. Similarly, at the time of fruition, there are also differences in the arising and non-arising of afflictive obscurations and cognitive obscurations, and because of these, there are also differences arising from complete defilement and complete purification. For the sake of those who have wrong views, the son of the venerable Sharadvati said, "In the ultimate sense, there is neither karma nor the maturation of karma, no birth, no cessation, no complete defilement, and no complete purification." All of these are completely imputed and do not truly exist. Therefore, because of them, suchness will not become different, this is the summary of this statement. Having thus proclaimed the unborn, in order to proclaim the dharma of birth, the question is initiated, that is, the venerable Subhuti, will the unborn dharma arise? Or will the born dharma arise? This is what is said. The question is asked, that is, when a sprout, etc., arises from a seed, does the sprout that has not appeared and not arisen arise? Or does the sprout that has already appeared and already arisen arise? After saying this, if the unarisen sprout arises, then all the unarisen
