No, that is a concluding word. What is the emptiness of form, that is not form, but unborn, which is the emptiness of the nature of the form of Dharma, that is not the nature of form, nor is it the nature of birth. The venerable Sharadvatiputra said, what is the unborn of form, that is not form, this is because the form that is discriminated is unborn, and it is not the nature of birth. Therefore, non-birth is not form, thus it is established, this is a concluding word. After that, the section of the third explanation is the venerable Subhuti, why is it said that the decay of form is not form, etc., is shown by this. What is form and what is decay, neither of the two is existent nor non-existent, this is because the form is also discriminated in the manner described before, and the decay is also discriminated. Therefore, both are without characteristics. In the fourth explanation, unborn is not other, form is not other, unborn nature is form. Form nature is unborn, this is in the manner described before, form is called and unborn is called Dharma nature. Therefore, there is no duality. The unborn of form will be seen, this is a concluding word of the manifestation of such reality. The unborn of form is called, like the former, because the form of Dharma nature and such reality are one, it is shown as such. From here on, the questions and answers of the two elders appear in detail, the venerable Subhuti, if form is also unborn, and even the Dharmas of the Buddhas are unborn, then the Shravakas should not have already attained the Bodhi of the Shravakas, etc., what is shown by this? If form etc. are one with such reality. If so, then understanding form etc. is understanding such reality. All sentient beings will also see the ultimate truth. After it becomes like this, all sentient beings will attain their respective Bodhi as they are without having to work hard. Ah!

If so, then the five types of enlightenment would also become indistinguishable. Stream-enterers, once-returners, non-returners, arhats, solitary buddhas, and omniscient ones would also become mixed up. If that were the case, then stream-enterers and so on would also become buddhas, and the effort to abandon the remaining afflictions would become meaningless. Bodhisattvas would also become meaningless to practice austerities and so on, since they have already attained enlightenment. The complete enlightenment of omniscience and the turning of the wheel of Dharma would also become meaningless. The venerable son of Sharadvati said, "I do not want to attain or realize the unarisen Dharma." I do not want to enter the stream in the unarisen, I do not want to have the fruit of stream-entry, what does this mean? No one can attain or realize the unarisen Dharma. In the unarisen, nothing becomes a stream-enterer. However, merely removing the obscuration of complete imputation is considered to be attainment and realization because there is no conceptualization of the object and the subject. Therefore, this shows that Suchness is not realized by Suchness. Therefore, if it is said that Suchness can be realized by understanding form and so on, then the previously mentioned fault will not be a fault, because afflictions and cognitive obscurations exist. The venerable son of Sharadvati said, "I do not want bodhisattvas to practice austerities." This is because bodhisattvas do not have such conceptualizations in the ultimate sense, so it is said. When a bodhisattva on the eighth bhumi attains forbearance of the unborn Dharma, when he does not perceive all things in all things, then he engages in austerities apart from birth and so on. At that time, a bodhisattva who has non-perception in mind does not have the perception of austerity or the perception of suffering in cutting off his head and so on. Thus, all great bodhisattvas do not take or perceive any Dharma at all times.

The concluding words indicate this. The venerable Sharadvatiputra said, "I do not think that there is a Tathagata in the unborn," etc. This is because, on the Dharmakaya of the unborn, it is not thought that there is a second Tathagata who can realize the unborn. Therefore, it shows that the unborn itself is the Tathagata, and the unborn itself is the complete and perfect enlightenment. To say, "It is not thought that the unborn can be obtained by the unborn Dharma," is equivalent to saying that it is not thought that suchness can be fully realized by suchness. After saying these words, the venerable Shariputra asked, "If the unborn cannot obtain the attainment of the unborn, then can the unborn obtain the attainment of the born? Or can the born obtain the attainment of the unborn?" Two distinctions were raised. The venerable Subhuti asked, "Is it the unborn Dharma that can obtain the attainment of the born, or is it the born Dharma that can obtain the attainment of the unborn?" This means that if the nature of suchness can obtain all the distinctions such as the fruit of stream-entry, then it is the unborn Dharma that can obtain the attainment of the born. If the person of distinction can obtain the nature of suchness such as the fruit of stream-entry, then it is the born Dharma that can obtain the attainment of the unborn. Because both of these situations are unbearable, the venerable Sharadvatiputra said, "I do not think that the born can be obtained by the unborn Dharma," etc. To say, "There is attainment, and there is realization, but not in these two ways," means that the two situations of the unborn obtaining the born, and the born obtaining the unborn, do not exist. But in conventional truth, merely abandoning afflictions and cognitive obscurations is established as attainment and realization, and it is shown that the fruit of stream-entry and the Tathagata, etc., are established as persons. The venerable Subhuti asked, "In conventional truth, how are attainment and realization established as formless, unindicatable, and unobstructed? Just like this, non-characteristic is one characteristic.
