That is to say, it means without conceptualization. Subhuti, even if Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas realize those peaceful dharmas, they will not be discouraged by this, and they will think: I should thus realize and perfectly awaken to these dharmas. How can I realize and perfectly awaken to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, and then proclaim such peaceful, such wonderful dharmas? To have such thoughts is to do what is difficult. That is to say, even if Bodhisattvas truly realize that all dharmas are empty in nature, peaceful, and not the objects of conceptualization and words, they will not be discouraged like Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and they will not only abide in one aspect of peace, but with skillful means, in order to benefit sentient beings, they will completely accumulate the collections of merit and wisdom, and after realizing and perfectly awakening to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, they will also establish that profound, peaceful, wonderful dharma that transcends the object of conceptualization in the sounds and terms of the world, thinking to proclaim it to sentient beings. This is something that Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas cannot do, so it is a difficult practice, it is truly wonderful! Subhuti, if it is said that after Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas realize and perfectly awaken to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, they become islands in the world, etc., this is to explain how Bodhisattvas become islands in the world. Subhuti, for example, from a river or a spring to the great ocean, whatever places are completely separated by water, however many there are, those are called islands. This is to explain by analogy with islands. For example, in a great river, a small stream, or a great ocean, land that can be a place for sentient beings to dwell, surrounded by water, is called an island. Sentient beings are carried away by water and cannot dwell independently. If they encounter such an island, they can rely on it and dwell there. This is called an island. Similarly, sentient beings who have not realized the true meaning, drifting in the ocean of samsara, if they obtain the peaceful place of nirvana, they will not drift in samsara, but like an island,

It is called an island because it teaches the profound, peaceful, and excellent Dharma that leads to happiness, just like dwelling in a place of refuge. Subhuti, the statement that form is completely cut off from its prior and subsequent limits means that, in ultimate reality, the nature of form is not established as existing. Therefore, there is no saying that it arose from this point in the past, or that it will arise from this point in the future. Thus, both limits are completely cut off, and without dwelling on either limit, one dwells in the Dharma realm that is free from both limits. Teaching the Dharma in this way is called an island. Just as it has been explained for form, it should be applied similarly to feeling and so forth, up to the point of all-knowingness. Subhuti, the complete cutting off of the prior and subsequent limits implies that all Dharmas are completely cut off. This means that the meaning of form and other Dharmas being free from the two limits, as explained above, is summarized and taught here. In short, all Dharmas are completely cut off from the two limits because, in ultimate reality, they are not established as existing entities. This is what is being taught. Subhuti, the complete cutting off of the prior and subsequent limits of all Dharmas is peace, is goodness, and so forth. This indicates that being free from the two limits is itself Nirvana, thus revealing different aspects of Nirvana. The term 'peace' signifies the complete purification of all obscurations of knowledge and afflictions. The term 'goodness' signifies being free from all demons and evil influences, including Mara. The term 'truth' signifies that the meaning is not mistaken or inverted. Thus, emptiness and signlessness, which the Lesser Vehicle considers to be Nirvana, are not actually existent as they are conceived to be. The term 'cessation of the continuum of the path' signifies that one will not be reborn in the five realms of Samsara. The term 'exhaustion of craving' signifies that there is no craving to take future aggregates. The term 'non-mixture' signifies that one is not mixed with contaminated Dharmas. The term 'freedom from desire' signifies that one is not attached even to the objects of the three realms. The term 'cessation' signifies...
