The land, and the merit of upholding morality, and the merit of practicing meditation, with the merit of rejoicing in the Bodhisattva, made common with all sentient beings, dedicating it to the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment in a non-attached manner, thereby showing that merit is particularly superior and vast. Mentioning श्रेष्ठ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning), पवित्र (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning), प्रधान (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning), etc., is to say the names of particularly superior and beautiful aspects. The reason why merit is so particularly superior is that the merit done by the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas is dedicated solely for themselves, while the merit of the Bodhisattva's rejoicing is dedicated for the sake of sentient beings, therefore it is shown that merit is particularly superior and vast. Then, the venerable Subhuti said to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya, from "thus said" to "how do those objects, those sons of good family, take them as signs, are those objects existent in that way?", is that previously Bodhisattva Maitreya showed that the merit of rejoicing is shared with all sentient beings, dedicating it to the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment in a non-attached manner, thereby showing that merit is particularly superior and vast. Subhuti grasped the key point and asked, the immeasurable and countless Buddhas, the Bhagavat, in the ten directions, from the initial arising of the mind of enlightenment, until the final complete Nirvana and the disappearance of the sacred Dharma, the roots of virtue accumulated by those Buddhas, the Bhagavat, the Bodhisattvas rejoice, and the merit of the Shravaka vehicle practitioners giving alms, upholding morality, and practicing meditation, and the stainless roots of virtue of the noble Shravaka learners and non-learners rejoice, and the Tathagata's stainless five aggregates rejoice, and the Tathagata's great compassion benefiting sentient beings' wishes rejoice, and the immeasurable and countless sacred Dharma of the Buddhas, the Bhagavat

and rejoice in the Blessed One's teaching of those sacred Dharma; having studied the sacred Dharma as it was taught, rejoice in the Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas obtaining their respective fruits; whatever roots of virtue any sentient beings have accumulated for the Tathagata's manifest presence and passing into Nirvana, gather all of them together; with unsurpassed rejoicing, that merit of rejoicing is also shared with all sentient beings; the objects of merit that are completely dedicated to unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, and the noble ones who generate roots of virtue, and the Bodhisattvas who rejoice and completely dedicate merit, are they truly existent as they are known and designated? The venerable Subhuti asked the Bodhisattva Maitreya. If they were to exist as they are perceived and apprehended, then all phenomena would have substantial existence and would have the fault of being associated with objects of perception. If they did not exist, then there would be no rejoicing in and dedication of those roots of virtue. If one were to rejoice in and dedicate to something that does not exist, then one would be clinging to the non-existent as existent, and would be seeing things perversely, this is the question asked by grasping the essential point. Maitreya said: How do those sons of the Bodhisattva vehicle hold onto signs? Just as they are completely dedicated to unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, those objects and objects of perception are not objects of perception, which means that those roots of virtue and the aforementioned rejoicing, etc., are conventionally perceived and dedicated, but in ultimate reality they are not substantially existent. Subhuti said: If that is the case, since there is no substance and no object of perception, from "in that way, wouldn't his perception be inverted?" If that is the case, if there is no such thing, then the Buddhas, Blessed Ones of the ten directions, and the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, the roots of virtue accumulated by them

If one does not focus on dedicating the unsurpassed and perfectly complete enlightenment of rejoicing in the merits of others, then there is no dedication. If one dedicates in a focused manner, then one apprehends something that does not exist as existing. Just as one sees permanence in impermanence, happiness in suffering, self in selflessness, and purity in impurity, will it not lead to inverted perceptions and views? Thus, it is questioned. Even so, everything is as it is, the focus is as it is, enlightenment is also the same, the mind is also the same, and even the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha are the same. Then, what is the object of dedicating to unsurpassed and perfectly complete enlightenment? What is the focus? What is enlightenment? What is the mind? What are the roots of virtue? What is the merit endowed with rejoicing? Up to the point of how these are nominally designated and conceptually grasped, such as unsurpassed enlightenment, the mind of dedication, the perfection of generosity, and so on, up to the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, if all these things are nominally designated and conceptually grasped as existing, then what is it that inherently exists as the object of dedication, the focus, enlightenment, the mind, the roots of virtue, and the merit endowed with rejoicing? Thus it is asked. Maitreya said: If a bodhisattva practices the six perfections, from "practice" to "not in the manner of arising, not in the manner of ceasing," the bodhisattva diligently practices the six perfections, attends to and honors many Buddhas, increases roots of virtue, and trains in the emptiness of all phenomena. They understand that all phenomena are without characteristics and non-dual. Therefore, they do not make conceptualizations and dedicate, so there is nothing to grasp for them. Thus it is taught. If those bodhisattvas practice the perfections
