The meaning is: Exhaustion, cessation, non-existence, and transformation are the nature of an instant, so they are impermanent and unreal synonyms. What is the mind that rejoices? What are those things? What are those objects? What are those roots of virtue? To dedicate (the roots of virtue) to the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment, this means that the mind that rejoices in this way, and things like generosity, and the object to be focused on, the unexcelled enlightenment, and all the roots of virtue to be dedicated, if these are all unreal in the ultimate truth, then what is there to dedicate? This is the meaning. Does the mind dedicate with (its own) mind? If the mind dedicates with (its own) mind, then the two minds have no chance to meet, which means that both the mind that rejoices and the mind that dedicates are of an instant nature. When the mind that dedicates arises, the mind that rejoices has ceased and no longer exists, so it is not possible for the mind to dedicate with (its own) mind, which is what it means. Whatever the nature of the mind is, it cannot be dedicated either, which means that in the ultimate truth, the nature of the mind is not established because it does not exist, so it is not possible to dedicate to something unreal, which is what is being expressed. If a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Prajnaparamita, starting with "The Prajnaparamita is unreal" and going to "If dedicated in that way, it will be dedicated to the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment," in the ultimate truth, from the six paramitas and so on up to all-knowingness, all dharmas should be realized as unreal, not clinging to their characteristics, but in the conventional truth, dedicating the merit possessed by rejoicing to the unexcelled enlightenment, then the dedication of merit is a flawless and completely pure dedication, which is what is being expressed. Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, said to the Venerable Subhuti, from "How does he rejoice"

Completely taking hold of the objects of meritorious deeds endowed with faith, and completely dedicating them to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, is that the Bodhisattvas who are completely pure, as mentioned above, having truly realized with wisdom that all dharmas are without substance, then with skillful means, in the conventional sense, completely dedicate those roots of virtue to unsurpassed enlightenment, then the dedication will be without fault and completely pure. If Bodhisattvas who are newly entering the Great Vehicle, who do not possess skillful means and wisdom, hear this teaching that all dharmas are without substance, will they become fearful and afraid? How should those roots of virtue and the objects of meritorious deeds endowed with rejoicing be completely dedicated to unsurpassed enlightenment with skillful means? Hundred Thousand asked Subhuti. Then, the venerable Subhuti, facing the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya, said to Indra, the lord of the gods, this is to make the Bodhisattvas who are newly entering the Great Vehicle believe in the method of dedicating roots of virtue in a way that is without object and without characteristics, so it is shown that he speaks facing Maitreya. Thus, facing Maitreya, it is not that Subhuti himself speaks with his own power and courage, but it is to show that it will be spoken by the blessing of the noble Maitreya. Kauśika! If the Bodhisattva Mahasattva who is newly entering the Great Vehicle practices the Perfection of Wisdom, and also holds the Perfection of Wisdom in a way that is without object and without characteristics, and so on, practices all-knowingness, and also holds all-knowingness in a way that is without object and without characteristics, then how to dedicate those roots of virtue and the objects of meritorious deeds endowed with rejoicing to unsurpassed enlightenment, is the teaching of the method from the six perfections and so on up to all-knowingness.
