Having ripened, and having purified all Buddha-fields, (it will lead to) the actual attainment of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. The passage up to "will become manifestly and perfectly enlightened in unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment" illustrates that just as someone whose ship has broken down in the great ocean can reach the shore without harm by clinging to and relying on wood, etc., so too, any son or daughter of good family who has faith and devotion, etc., in unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and who strives and practices through questioning and reading, etc., this profound Perfection of Wisdom, will, being upheld by the Perfection of Wisdom, etc., transcend the stages of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. Without deteriorating in the intermediate state, they will manifestly and perfectly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. This is what is to be shown. Subhuti, for example, if a certain woman or man thinks of filling a pot with water that has not been fired or plastered, from "if it is not upheld by omniscience itself" to "those sons or daughters of good family of the Bodhisattva Vehicle should be known to decline in the intermediate state," it means that some of the Bodhisattva Vehicle, even though they have faith and devotion, etc., in unsurpassed enlightenment, if they are not upheld by wisdom and skillful means, their mental continuum not being fully matured, they will decline in the intermediate state. Just as an unfired pot filled with water will break and decay, this is what is to be shown. Subhuti, what is the decline that occurs in the intermediate state for those sons or daughters of good family of the Bodhisattva Vehicle? It is like this: the stage of Hearers or the stage of Solitary Buddhas. This refers to what was said above, "will decline in the intermediate state." The decline that occurs in the intermediate state for a Bodhisattva is to fall into the stage of Hearers or Solitary Buddhas, which one should not fall into, and to degenerate from the Great Vehicle. This is what is to be shown. Subhuti, for example, if a certain man or woman draws water from a river, lake, pond, or well with a well-fired pot, from "if upheld by omniscience itself," Subhuti, the Bodhisattva

That great courageous bodhisattva, in this way, will not fall into the state of a Shravaka or Pratyekabuddha in the intermediate state. Without fault or harm, they will manifestly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment and become a Buddha. This passage indicates that if one is completely embraced by skillful means and wisdom, one will not fall into the state of a Shravaka or Pratyekabuddha in the intermediate state, but will manifestly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment and become a Buddha. This is illustrated by the example of a well-made vase placed in water, which allows one to return home safely. Subhuti, for example, if a ship on the ocean is not bound together and its leaks are not repaired, and it is loaded with goods and launched into the water, from that point on, if it is not completely embraced by all-knowing wisdom, Subhuti, that bodhisattva mahasattva will fall into the intermediate state. Therefore, know that all-knowing wisdom is separated from the great meaning of precious jewels and is stingy with great jewels. This passage indicates that a merchant entering the ocean to obtain precious jewels, if unskilled in means and poorly repairing the ship, will suffer great harm and will not find precious jewels. This analogy shows that if a bodhisattva does not possess skillful means and wisdom, even if they have faith and so on, they will not achieve all-knowing wisdom and will degenerate from the Great Vehicle in the intermediate state. Subhuti, what is the degeneration of bodhisattva mahasattvas in the intermediate state? It is falling into the state of a Shravaka or Pratyekabuddha. This passage indicates that falling into the state of a Shravaka or Pratyekabuddha is the degeneration of a bodhisattva. Subhuti, for example, a certain person with intelligent qualities, from that point on, if they are completely embraced by all-knowing wisdom, Subhuti, know that that bodhisattva mahasattva will not fall into unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment in the intermediate state. This passage indicates, by the example of a well-repaired ship entering the ocean, that a bodhisattva possessing skillful means and wisdom will not degenerate in the intermediate state, but will manifestly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment and become a Buddha. Subhuti.
