This shows the fact that there are no characteristics whatsoever, namely emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, non-fabrication, no arising, no ceasing, no afflictions, no purification, no things, no self-nature, the self-nature of no things, non-abiding, and the characteristic of space, which are names for the absence of things. Since this profound Prajnaparamita has such a nature, it is shown that it has no characteristics whatsoever. Sons of the gods, although this profound Prajnaparamita has such characteristics, the Tathagata teaches according to the conventions of the world, but not in the ultimate truth. This means that since Prajnaparamita is without things and without characteristics, what is there to say? When one thinks and expresses and speaks of it in letters and words, it is merely to tame sentient beings, and to express and speak of it conventionally in the conventions and terms of the world, and that is all. In the ultimate truth, it is an inexpressible characteristic, and therefore it is inexpressible. Sons of the gods, These characteristics cannot be changed by the world with gods, humans, and asuras. This shows that the profound Prajnaparamita of ultimate truth, the characteristic of emptiness, is unchangeable, is completely accomplished, and is completely non-inverted. Therefore, no one can turn it into something with things or the nature of grasper and grasped. Why is that? Because the world with gods, humans, and asuras is also exhausted in that characteristic. This shows the reason why the characteristic of emptiness cannot be turned into a characteristic of having characteristics, that is, the world with gods, humans, and asuras is also the characteristic of emptiness, so emptiness cannot transform emptiness into something else. Sons of the gods, a characteristic does not transform a characteristic into another characteristic, which clearly shows the same meaning, that is, both what is transformed and the transformer are of the same taste of emptiness in the ultimate truth, the characteristic of suchness, and therefore it does not transform into something else.

This is an explanation of the ground. The statement "self-nature does not know self-nature" means that the self-nature of suchness, emptiness, does not know emptiness, just as space does not know space. The statement "self-nature does not know non-self-nature" means that the self-nature of emptiness does not know the imputed self-nature through the self-nature of suchness, just as space does not know a rabbit's horn. The statement "non-self-nature does not know non-self-nature" means that because it is not the imputed self-nature or the self-nature of suchness, it does not know suchness, just as a rabbit's horn does not know space. The statement "non-self-nature does not know non-self-nature" means that the imputed does not know the imputed, just as a rabbit's horn does not know a rabbit's horn. Thus, self-nature, the possessor of self-nature, that which has self-nature, and that which does not have self-nature, for both of these, it is impossible to have something that knows, something that is known, and something that knows. The statement "Both that which has self-nature and that which does not have self-nature, in ultimate truth, there is no entity, so what knows what is known, what entity is known, and what knower knows, like this, there is nothing" is an explanation of this. Sons of the gods, these self-natures are not made by the aggregates of form, and so on, up to not being made by omniscience itself, what is said in between is that, thus, the self-nature of emptiness, in ultimate truth, there is no entity, so it is not possible for any worldly or transcendent dharma to be or not to be, this is an explanation of this. Sons of the gods, these self-natures are not of humans or non-humans, and so on, up to not being conditioned or unconditioned, what is said in between is that the self-natures mentioned above, in ultimate truth, there is no entity, so it is not the self-nature of any entity such as humans or non-humans, this is the meaning of this. Sons of the gods, if someone says this: What is the self-nature of space? and so on, up to space has no self-nature at all, what is said in between is that those self-natures of emptiness are entities.
