This shows the reason why, since all phenomena such as form are without inherent existence in the ultimate sense, there is no need to strive for their accomplishment, and there is no need to abandon them. If all phenomena such as form were inherently existent, then they would exist in the three times, either in the prior extreme, or in the later extreme, or in the present arising time, and if examined with true wisdom in the category of objects, no inherent existence would be seen in any of the three times. Therefore, there is no need to strive for their accomplishment; and there is no need to abandon them for the sake of non-accomplishment. This is what is shown. Then, the venerable Sharadvatiputra asked the Blessed One as follows, from "Sharadvatiputra, the Suchness of all-aspects-knowing is profound, therefore the Prajnaparamita is profound" to the question of "Thus, the Prajnaparamita that shows all phenomena such as form to be without objects in the three times is not the object of all sentient beings, and it is difficult to realize and believe, therefore it is profound." The Blessed One showed that the Suchness, the nature of all phenomena such as form being without inherent existence, is not an object of direct perception, therefore, the Prajnaparamita that shows it in this way is profound. Question: "Blessed One, the Prajnaparamita is difficult to fathom," from "Sharadvatiputra, all-aspects-knowing is difficult to fathom, therefore the Prajnaparamita is difficult to fathom" to the middle, it is to explain the difficulty of fathoming in order to show the meaning of profoundness by other terms. Question: "Blessed One, this Prajnaparamita is immeasurable," from "Sharadvatiputra, all-aspects-knowing is immeasurable, therefore the Prajnaparamita is immeasurable" to the middle, it is to show the meaning of difficult to fathom by immeasurability. Since all phenomena such as form are without inherent existence in the ultimate sense, it is impossible to measure the number and extent, so it is the meaning of difficult to fathom. Question: "Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practice the Prajnaparamita?"

That is, as mentioned above, all dharmas are insubstantial in the ultimate sense, deep and immeasurable, and therefore not the object of practice for all. The Prajñāpāramitā is also deep and immeasurable, and therefore not the object of practice for all. How should a Bodhisattva practice the Prajñāpāramitā? Śāriputra asked about the method of practicing the Prajñāpāramitā. The Blessed One said: O son of Śāradvatī, when a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva practices the Prajñāpāramitā, if he does not practice by calling form deep, then he practices the Prajñāpāramitā. From 'if he does not practice by calling form deep, then he practices the Prajñāpāramitā' to 'if he does not practice by calling all-knowingness deep, then he practices the Prajñāpāramitā', it means that if one does not cling to the emptiness of self-nature of all dharmas such as form in the ultimate sense as deep, and is without discrimination, then one practices in the manner of not practicing the Prajñāpāramitā, this is what is to be shown. Why is this so? O son of Śāradvatī, what is the deepness of form, that is not form, from 'what is the deepness of form, that is not form' to 'what is the deepness of all-knowingness, that is not all-knowingness', it means that with respect to all dharmas such as form, if there is no clinging to deepness and no discrimination, then it is the reason for practicing the Prajñāpāramitā, this is what is to be shown. Calling all dharmas such as form deep means insubstantiality, what is insubstantiality, that is not the inherent existence of form etc., therefore it is not an object of discrimination, this is what is to be shown. O son of Śāradvatī, when a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva practices the Prajñāpāramitā, if he does not practice by calling form immeasurable, then he practices the Prajñāpāramitā, from 'if he does not practice by calling form immeasurable, then he practices the Prajñāpāramitā' to 'if he does not practice by calling all-knowingness immeasurable, then he practices the Prajñāpāramitā', it means that all dharmas such as form are immeasurable because of their emptiness of self-nature.
