pa'o. The Blessed One said: From "Form is extremely pure, therefore the Dharma of extreme purity will be taught," to "Omniscience is extremely pure, therefore the Dharma of extreme purity will be taught," it means that all phenomena such as form are empty of inherent existence in the ultimate sense. Because they are unstained and unattached to anything, they are extremely pure. This is teaching the profound meaning of the Prajnaparamita, and it is not teaching by focusing on form and other phenomena as real entities, clinging to characteristics such as permanence and impermanence. Asked: Blessed One, the Prajnaparamita is completely pure. Since it has been said that all phenomena such as form are extremely pure, the Prajnaparamita is also not different from these extremely pure phenomena, so the Prajnaparamita is also completely pure. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, because form is completely pure, the Prajnaparamita is completely pure. From "because form is completely pure, the Prajnaparamita is completely pure" to "because omniscience is completely pure, the Prajnaparamita is completely pure," it is a detailed explanation of the meaning of Subhuti's question that the Prajnaparamita is completely pure. All phenomena such as form are empty of inherent existence in the ultimate sense and are completely pure, and the Prajnaparamita is empty of inherent existence and completely pure. The two are of one taste in complete purity and are not different. Therefore, because all phenomena such as form are completely pure, it is taught that the Prajnaparamita is completely pure. Asked: Blessed One, how is it that form is completely pure, so that the Prajnaparamita is completely pure? From "How is it that form is completely pure, so that the Prajnaparamita is completely pure?" to "How is it that omniscience is completely pure, so that the Prajnaparamita is completely pure?" it is to distinguish the occasion for explaining in detail the meaning of all phenomena being unborn, unceasing, etc. How is it that all phenomena such as form are completely pure, so that

"Bhagavan, the perfection of wisdom is completely pure." Subhuti reported to the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan said, "Subhuti, form has no birth, no cessation, no defilement, and no purification; this is the complete purity of form. Up to the all-knowingness itself, there is no birth, no cessation, no defilement, and no purification; this is the complete purity of all-knowingness." This is because all phenomena, including form, are empty of inherent existence in ultimate truth. There is no birth, no cessation, no defilement, and no purification, which is why it is called complete purity. This shows that it is not because something existent is free from faults or stains that it is called completely pure. Furthermore, Subhuti, because the sky is completely pure, the perfection of wisdom is also completely pure. This is showing the complete purity of the perfection of wisdom by taking the sky as an example. Just as the sky, even when obscured by sudden clouds and fog, its nature remains completely pure and does not become impure. Similarly, the perfection of wisdom, even when obscured by conceptualized phenomena, its nature remains completely pure and does not become impure." "Bhagavan, how is it that the sky is completely pure, and therefore the perfection of wisdom is completely pure?" This is because Subhuti asked this question to distinguish the meaning of no birth and no cessation in the context of the sky and the perfection of wisdom. The Bhagavan said, "Because there is no birth, no cessation, no defilement, and no purification, the sky is completely pure." This shows that the sky has no birth, no cessation, and so on, and is therefore completely pure. Similarly, the perfection of wisdom has no birth, no cessation, and so on, and is therefore completely pure. Subhuti, because the sky has no beginning, the perfection of wisdom is completely pure.

Just as one's own nature is pure and without any faults or stains, so too is the Perfection of Wisdom completely pure, which is what is to be shown. Question: World Honored One, how is it that because space has no beginning, the Perfection of Wisdom is completely pure? This is asked by Subhuti in order to distinguish the meaning of explaining the absence of grasper and grasped. The World Honored One said: Subhuti, because space is ungraspable, the Perfection of Wisdom is completely pure. This means that space has neither grasper nor grasped, and just as it is completely pure, so too the Perfection of Wisdom has no conceptualization of grasper and grasped, and is therefore completely pure. Subhuti, because space has no designation, the Perfection of Wisdom is completely pure. This means that space itself is neither the nature of speaking nor of establishing designations, nor is it the nature of space being spoken of and designated by others, just as it is completely pure, so too the Perfection of Wisdom is free from the designation of speaking and what is to be spoken, and is therefore completely pure. Question: World Honored One, how is it that because space has no designation, the Perfection of Wisdom is completely pure? This is asked in order to show by taking the example of space having no designation, taking the sound image. The World Honored One said: Subhuti, for example, just like the sound of the sound image of space, because space has no designation, the Perfection of Wisdom is completely pure. This means that both the sound uttered by a person and the sound emanating from a cliff resound in empty space, but space is neither the nature of speaking nor of uttering, nor is it the nature of sound, just as it is completely pure, so too the Perfection of Wisdom is only speaking and uttering in conventional truth, but in ultimate truth it is not the nature of what can be spoken and what is to be spoken, and is therefore completely pure. Subhuti, because space is unspeakable, the Perfection of Wisdom is completely
