Is it that nothing can be designated? The Blessed One said: "Rabjor, the Perfection of Wisdom is not designable," and so forth, the Perfection of Wisdom and all the completely purified dharmas, as well as all dharmas such as conditioned and unconditioned, are also not designable. If one realizes this, one will attain omniscience. This is what is being taught. The question is: "Blessed One, if all dharmas are not designable, then why do sentient beings go to hell?" and so forth, which means that all dharmas are empty of inherent existence and are not designable. The result of bad deeds is the three lower realms, and the result of good deeds is that there is no higher realm or noble ground. Why are these things taught in the scriptures? This is the question. The Blessed One said: "Rabjor, what do you think? Is there a designation of sentient beings?" and so forth. The teaching of lower realms and higher realms is only a conventional designation for the benefit of sentient beings, because the results of good and bad deeds have happiness and suffering. In reality, there is nothing to point to, so one should learn that all dharmas are not designable. This is what is being taught. The question is: "Blessed One, then when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, does he study form?" and so forth. If all dharmas are not designable, then form and so on, up to omniscience, are not designable and have no object of reference. There is nothing to learn, so should we not study these? This is the question. The Blessed One said: "One should study form without decreasing or increasing." And so forth, which means to study without slandering or exaggerating. Not decreasing means not regarding it as non-existent even in conventional truth. Not increasing means not regarding it as existent in ultimate truth. The question is: "Blessed One, how should one study form without decreasing or increasing?" and so forth, which is taught to distinguish the occasion for teaching that all dharmas are without arising or ceasing. Blessed One
