For the Bodhisattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom, and similarly for the non-conceptual Perfection of Wisdom, all-knowingness such as the five perfections, and up to the realm of conditioned and unconditioned phenomena, all phenomena are non-conceptual with a single taste of emptiness, as has been taught. The venerable Subhuti said, 'If all phenomena are non-conceptual, then from where does the term 'Buddha Bhagavan' arise?' This is because, as stated above, all phenomena are non-conceptual, and to dispel the thought that some in the assembly might think that if all phenomena are of one taste in emptiness, then samsara and nirvana are also of one taste in emptiness, and nothing needs to be done, therefore Shariputra asked Subhuti. Subhuti said, 'Venerable son of Sharadvati, from non-conceptuality it is said to be Buddha, from non-conceptuality it is said to be Bodhi.' This is because, in ultimate truth, all phenomena are empty of inherent existence, and although non-conceptual, in conventional truth, whatever good or bad deeds are done, it is not that there is no production of the fruits of happiness and suffering. This is to show that individual beings do not truly see, and those who think and analyze in a reversed manner are engaged in actions that become the cause of samsara, and the result will also ripen in samsara, being born in the five realms. If the minds of beings are not reversed, and they are not attached to the phenomena of samsara, those who are non-conceptual will be liberated from samsara and attain the noble grounds, as has been taught. Venerable son of Sharadvati, in the past, as many Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Ones as there were, by practicing the non-conceptual Perfection of Wisdom, they awakened to complete perfect enlightenment with all non-conceptual dharmas. This is to show the reason why attaining the noble grounds comes from meditating on non-conceptuality, and the Buddhas, Bhagavans of the three times also awakened to complete perfect enlightenment by abandoning conceptualization, therefore of all phenomena

Likewise, non-discrimination should be revered. In the Prajnaparamita of non-discrimination, one should practice non-discrimination. Thus it is taught. This is the end of the forty-eighth chapter of the One Hundred Thousand Prajnaparamita Sutra. Chapter Forty-Nine: Non-Discrimination Then, the venerable Sharadvatiputra said to the venerable Subhuti, "O venerable Subhuti, it is wonderful that a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices the Prajnaparamita is practicing the essence." This means that Shariputra understood the meaning of non-discrimination explained above. Thus, practicing the meaning of non-discrimination is practicing the supreme practice, practicing what has become the essence. Thus he praised it. Having said this, the venerable Subhuti said to the venerable Sharadvatiputra, "O venerable Sharadvatiputra, it is wonderful that a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices the Prajnaparamita is practicing the non-essence." This means that in response to the previous statement that one is practicing the essence, in order to dispel the thought that there is such a thing as the essence among the retinue, it is said that one is practicing the non-essence. The so-called essence refers to the most excellent among existing things. The so-called non-essence refers to the fact that in ultimate reality, all dharmas are empty of inherent nature and without substance. Therefore, it is taught that a Bodhisattva who practices the Prajnaparamita is practicing the non-essence. Why is that? O venerable Sharadvatiputra, the Prajnaparamita is non-essential, and so on, up to the statement that all-knowingness is non-essential. This explains the reason for practicing non-essence. The dharmas from the six perfections up to all-knowingness are without substance in ultimate reality. Because the Bodhisattva also practices these dharmas, it means that he is practicing non-essence. Why is that? It is like this: a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, the Prajnaparamita
