From the section up to "irreversible," it is explained that "irreversible" is established through negation. If there is reversion, then from "irreversible" onwards, the negation of reverting from which phenomena is called irreversible. Subhuti asked, if one turns away from the notion of seeing all phenomena, such as form, as having inherent existence, then one has obtained forbearance towards the non-arising of phenomena. Therefore, one should understand that one is irreversible. This is what the Buddha taught. Why is that? Because, in this way, the irreversible Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, from "all phenomena are empty of their own characteristics" to "the irreversible Bodhisattva-Mahasattva obtains forbearance towards the non-arising of phenomena," reveals the reason for turning away from the notion of seeing all phenomena as having inherent existence. Because that Bodhisattva realizes that all phenomena are empty of their own characteristics, he enters the first faultless Bodhisattva ground. Having entered the first ground, he realizes that, in ultimate truth, not even an atom of any phenomenon can be found as an object of focus. Therefore, he does not fixate on anything. Because he does not fixate, he does not generate any phenomena. Therefore, it is called obtaining forbearance towards the non-arising of phenomena. Thus, having obtained forbearance towards the non-arising of phenomena, one should understand that one is irreversible. This is what was taught. The Fortieth Chapter of the Extensive Explanation of the Hundred Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita. Chapter Forty-One: The Chapter on the Signs of Irreversibility. Furthermore, Subhuti, from "the Evil One, Mara, comes near the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva and disrupts his aspiration" to "the Bodhisattva will enter without fault," it is taught that the Evil One, Mara, having nominally designated all phenomena as empty, asks, "Since all phenomena are empty of inherent nature, what is there to become manifestly enlightened about?" This teaches the instruction on how to prevent the Bodhisattva's aspiration and faith from being disrupted and overcome by Mara. In ultimate truth, all phenomena are like the sky, empty of inherent nature. However, in conventional truth, the results of whatever virtuous or non-virtuous actions are performed are not non-existent. Therefore, I will attain omniscience.

Thereafter, having attained complete and perfect enlightenment, and vowing to gradually place all sentient beings in the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Bodhi, and to steadfastly maintain the mind, unshakeable by demons. This is what is to be explained. Then, the venerable Subhuti asked the Blessed One, saying: etc., this refers to the Bodhisattva who has attained the forbearance of non-arising dharmas and abides in the irreversible stage. This is to explain the reversion from the stages of Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and after reverting from the stages of Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, attaining the forbearance of non-arising dharmas and becoming an irreversible Bodhisattva. Please tell me, Blessed One, why is an irreversible Bodhisattva Mahasattva called irreversible? This is because of not reverting from the stages of Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, hence the question of whether such a Bodhisattva is called irreversible. However, is a reverting Bodhisattva also called irreversible? This is asking whether a Bodhisattva who has reverted from the stages of Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas is called irreversible. The Blessed One replied: Subhuti, an irreversible Bodhisattva is called irreversible. This means that a Bodhisattva who has attained the forbearance of non-arising dharmas and abides in the irreversible stage is called irreversible because of reverting from the stages of Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. An irreversible Bodhisattva is called irreversible, which means that when a Bodhisattva reverts from the stages of Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, at that time, he attains the forbearance of non-arising dharmas and abides in the irreversible stage, therefore he is called irreversible. Question: Blessed One, why is an irreversible Bodhisattva called irreversible? Why is a reverting Bodhisattva called irreversible? This is to clearly explain the meaning briefly stated earlier, so Subhuti asked this question. The Blessed One replied: Subhuti, Bodhisattva
