The phrase "born after the passing away" indicates that the Tathagata and Subhuti are identical in Suchness and demonstrates the reason for their conformity. Suchness is completely pure and immutable. It does not come from anywhere in the beginning, nor does it go anywhere in the end. Because it is immutable, it is completely accomplished. Therefore, because Subhuti teaches such a Dharma, he is not born after the Tathagata's passing away. From the beginning, he is the nature of Suchness, because he is not different from the Suchness of the Tathagata. Thus, it is taught that he is born after the Tathagata's passing away. What is the Suchness of the Tathagata? It is also the Suchness of all Dharmas. What is the Suchness of all Dharmas? It is also the Suchness of the Tathagata. This means that just as the nature of the Tathagata and Subhuti are not different, so too, all Dharmas are ultimately the nature of Suchness. Therefore, they are not different from the nature of the Suchness of the Tathagata. Furthermore, the Suchness of the Tathagata is not Suchness. This means that when the nature of Suchness is taught, in order to dispel the notion that such Suchness exists as the nature of a real entity, it is taught that it does not exist as a real entity. Now, the fact that the Venerable Subhuti is said to be born after the Tathagata is because, conventionally, he conforms to the Tathagata and the teaching of the Dharma. He is not merely born in conformity, but also, ultimately, he is not different from the nature of Suchness, which is devoid of substance. Therefore, it is said that Subhuti is born after the Tathagata. The statement that the Venerable Subhuti abides in the Suchness of the Tathagata, and therefore is born after the Tathagata, means that the Dharmakaya nature of the Suchness of the Tathagata and the ultimate nature of Subhuti are ultimately not different. Because they abide in one nature, it is taught that Subhuti is born after the Tathagata. Like the Suchness of the

Just as the suchness is unchanging and without conceptualization, so too, the suchness of the venerable Subhuti is unchanging and without conceptualization. This means that the suchness of the Tathagata and the suchness of Subhuti are of the same nature, which is the immutable and perfectly accomplished realm of Dharma, and is the nature of non-conceptualization. Just as the suchness of the Tathagata is unimpeded by anything, so too, the suchness of all dharmas is unimpeded by anything. This means that the Dharmakaya of the Tathagata, emptiness, and the emptiness of all dharmas, are without substance, and therefore have the nature of being unimpeded by anything. Whatever is the suchness of the Tathagata, and whatever is the suchness of all dharmas, that is, the suchness is one and not two, and cannot be made into two. This means that the suchness of the Tathagata and the suchness of all dharmas, which are unimpeded by anything, are also of one taste in the emptiness of the Dharmadhatu, and are shown to be without distinction. That suchness is also unmade, which means that emptiness is of an unconditioned nature, and therefore is not born from causes and conditions. That suchness is also not that which has not become the suchness of anything, which means that emptiness is not unknowing, but it is to show that in the ultimate sense of all dharmas, there is no substance, and it is the nature of emptiness. Since that suchness is also not that which has not become the suchness of anything, therefore, that suchness is non-dual and cannot be made into two, which means that the nature of emptiness, which is called suchness, is not different from the nature of non-substance. Thus, the venerable Subhuti is born after the Tathagata, which is to summarize the meaning of what was said above, that in the ultimate sense, the Bhagavan and Subhuti are of one taste in suchness, and are without difference. Whatever is the suchness of the Tathagata, that is unchanging and without conceptualization at all times, so it is.

Moreover, the Suchness of Subhuti is also immutable and non-conceptual in all respects. The term "non-conceptual" means that the Suchness of the Tathagata and the Suchness of Subhuti are of the same nature and are non-different. This is shown to be completely established by being unchangeable and completely established by being non-inverted. The phrase "immutable in all respects" means that the Suchness is completely pure by its very nature, so there is no such thing as being impure before and becoming pure later. There is also no such thing as being impure in some places and pure in others, because it remains unchanged in all times and places. It is shown that it is completely established by being unchangeable. The term "non-conceptual" indicates that it is shown to be completely established by being non-inverted, meaning that there is no inverted conceptualization of the characteristics of the grasped and the grasper. Just as the Suchness of the Tathagata is non-different, inseparable, indivisible, and without an object, so too is the Suchness of Subhuti non-different, inseparable, indivisible, and without an object. The term "without an object" means that, in terms of ultimate truth, the Suchness is not the nature of a real thing, so it is not different or divided into two. Moreover, it is not the nature of an agent, so it does not act on other things. In this way, there is no action in either of the two things, so it is shown to be without an object. Thus, the Venerable Subhuti is born after the Tathagata, which is a summary of the meaning explained above. Just as the Suchness of the Tathagata does not exist apart from the Suchness of all phenomena, and it is never not Suchness, but always Suchness, this refers to the Dharmakaya of the Tathagata, the nature of emptiness, which does not exist apart from the emptiness of all phenomena, but is one in the nature of emptiness. Moreover, it is not that it was previously not completely pure and later became completely pure, but it always has the nature of being completely pure. Similarly, the Venerable Subhuti is not in any other way
