When the courageous Bodhisattva practices the six perfections, it is said to be the complete training of the path to enlightenment. This is to explain the meaning that all dharmas are without inherent existence, and thus to explain the method of completely training the path to enlightenment. Therefore, Shariputra asked Subhuti, how does one completely train the path to enlightenment? Subhuti replied: Venerable Shariputra, the perfection of generosity is also worldly, and also transcendental, etc. This is to distinguish and explain in detail the difference between practicing the six perfections when the three circles are not completely pure, and practicing when the three circles are completely pure. Among them, practicing the six perfections such as generosity with the three circles not completely pure, worldly people cannot completely train the path to enlightenment, but practicing the six perfections with the three circles completely pure is transcendental, therefore one can completely train the path to enlightenment. He also asked: Venerable Subhuti, what is the worldly perfection of generosity? And what is the transcendental one? This is because Subhuti had previously briefly said that the six perfections are also worldly and also transcendental, so Shariputra asked in detail, what is worldly? And what is transcendental? Subhuti replied: Venerable Shariputra, here, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices generosity, becoming the master of generosity, etc. This is Subhuti explaining the worldly perfection of generosity. Ascetics, Brahmins, the poor, the hungry, the thirsty, beggars, these refer to the objects of generosity, the recipients. For those who want food, give food; for those who want drink, give drink, etc. This refers to the items of material generosity. There are also three types of material generosity: ordinary generosity, great generosity, and difficult generosity. Among them, ordinary generosity is: for those who want food, give food; for those who want drink, give drink, and even completely give away all the necessities of human beings.

It is shown in between... The so-called "vehicle" refers to something to ride on. The great generosity is shown by: completely giving away a son to someone who wants a son; completely giving away a daughter to someone who wants a daughter; completely giving away a wife to someone who wants a wife; completely giving away a kingdom to someone who wants a kingdom. Difficult generosity is shown by: completely giving away a head to someone who wants a head; completely giving away eyes to someone who wants eyes; completely giving away limbs and branches to someone who wants limbs and branches; completely giving away flesh, blood, and bones to someone who wants flesh, blood, and bones. Furthermore, the meaning of "abiding and completely giving away" is to completely give away generosity when the three circles are not completely pure and are accompanied by attachment. Then, thinking like this: "I am the giver, this is the receiver," from here to "this is the worldly perfection of generosity," it shows the generosity of giving with a mind that is not completely pure in the three circles and is accompanied by attachment. Why is it called the worldly perfection of generosity? Because it is like this, it does not waver from the world, it is not superior, it does not transcend. Therefore, it is called the worldly perfection of generosity. That is to say, it shows the reason why completely giving away generosity with a mind that is not completely pure in the three circles and is accompanied by attachment will become the perfection of generosity. The so-called "does not waver from the world" is because of attachment to the perception of self. The so-called "not superior" is because of attachment to the perception of other. The so-called "does not transcend" is because of attachment to the perception of generosity. Thus, generosity done with a mind that is not completely pure in the three circles and is accompanied by attachment does not transcend the world, because it becomes the cause of the enjoyment of samsara, so it is called the worldly perfection of generosity, but not the perfection of generosity that transcends the world, therefore it is not the meaning of completely training the path to enlightenment. Because it is shared with all sentient beings and completely dedicated to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, it is called perfection.
