That which is not constantly present is called impermanent. Therefore, the meaning of impermanence refers to the non-existence and cessation of things. Cessation is also another way of saying non-existence. Furthermore, son of Sharadvati, all dharmas are suffering, not because of separation from anything. Such statements, from the perspective of suffering, show that all dharmas are of the nature of non-inherent existence. When one manifestly clings to all imputed dharmas such as form as truly existent, then it becomes a cause of suffering, and is therefore called suffering. When one realizes that these imputed dharmas are without inherent existence in the ultimate sense, and no longer clings to them, then there will be no suffering. Therefore, suffering arises from the inverted view of seeing inherent existence where there is none. Whatever arises from inverted views is not truly existent, therefore, the statement that all dharmas are suffering should be understood as showing that all dharmas are without inherent existence. Not because of separation from anything means that it is not because of separation from existent things such as happiness that suffering arises, but rather it arises from the inverted view of seeing inherent existence where there is none. Here, too, all dharmas, both mundane and supramundane, from the five aggregates such as form up to the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, should be applied with the same meaning. Why is that? Son of Sharadvati, like this, whatever is suffering is non-inherent existence and cessation. This means that all dharmas are suffering because of the inverted view of seeing inherent existence where there is none, clinging to them as truly existent, but in reality, they are not truly existent, therefore it is shown that they are non-inherent existence and cessation. Furthermore, son of Sharadvati, all dharmas are without self, not because of separation from anything. Such statements, from the perspective of selflessness, show that all dharmas are of the nature of non-inherent existence. Saying that there is no self from the five aggregates such as form up to the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, refers to their

It is not like me. It is not because of being separated from the "self" conceived by the heretics who claim that there is no self in emptiness. This is its meaning. Sharadvatiputra, moreover, all dharmas are peaceful, not separated from anything. Such as these, from the perspective of peace, it reveals that all dharmas are of the nature of non-entity. All these dharmas from the five aggregates such as form to the eighteen unshared dharmas of the Buddha, in the ultimate truth, are without self-nature and are peaceful from the beginning, therefore they are called peaceful. It is not that it becomes peaceful by separating from the side that contradicts the existing things, this is what is to be revealed. Sharadvatiputra, moreover, all dharmas are empty, not separated from anything. Such as these, from the gate of liberation, that is, from the perspective of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, it reveals that all dharmas are of the nature of non-entity. All these dharmas from the five aggregates such as form to the eighteen unshared dharmas of the Buddha, in the ultimate truth, are not established as having self-nature, they are emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. It is not that it becomes emptiness by separating from other things, becomes signless by separating from signs, and becomes wishless by separating from wishes. But because of the self-nature being empty, the self-nature being signless, and the self-nature being wishless, all dharmas are of the nature of non-entity, this is what is to be revealed. Sharadvatiputra, moreover, all dharmas are virtuous, not separated from anything. Such as these, from the perspective of virtue, it reveals that all dharmas from form, etc. to the unshared dharmas of the Buddha are of the nature of non-entity. Not separated from anything means that it is not that there are some non-virtuous things, and then it is called virtuous by separating from them, but it means that all dharmas are non-entity and empty, because the self-nature is luminous, therefore it is virtuous, this is its meaning. Why is that? Sharadvatiputra, for example, any virtuous thing is non-existent and has ceased,
