The so-called 'that' etc., is what Shariputra asked Subhuti above: 'Why do you say that form Bodhisattva is also non-existent and unattainable?' Subhuti repeated this sentence and explained in detail the reason why all dharmas such as form are not Bodhisattvas. The venerable Sharadvatiputra said: 'Form is empty by its nature of form. Why is that? Because in emptiness there is no form, no Bodhisattva.' This means that in the ultimate truth, the nature of form is empty, therefore, in such emptiness, there is no so-called form, and no so-called Bodhisattva. Therefore, I said that form Bodhisattva is also non-existent and unattainable. Just as what is said about form, it should also be applied to all worldly and transcendental dharmas from sensation to Tathagata. The venerable Sharadvatiputra, I say this: If Bodhisattvas are unattainable in all places, all, all aspects, all... etc. This is what Shariputra asked Subhuti above: 'Why do you say that Bodhisattvas are unattainable in all aspects, then which Bodhisattva and which Prajnaparamita should be taught and instructed?' Subhuti repeated Shariputra's sentence and explained its meaning in detail. Form is non-existent and unattainable in form. Form is non-existent and unattainable in sensation... etc., this is a detailed explanation of the reason why there is no one to teach and instruct because Bodhisattvas are non-existent and unattainable in all aspects. Form and other worldly and transcendental dharmas, Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and even Tathagatas, all these dharmas in the ultimate truth are neither my own nature nor his nature. Therefore, Bodhisattvas are non-existent and unattainable in all aspects, so no Bodhisattva can teach and instruct any Prajnaparamita. That's what is said. Among them, the sentence 'Form is non-existent and unattainable in form' indicates that it is not my own nature.

It has been shown. The statement "Form is not in feeling, nor is it perceived" indicates that it is also absent in other things. Similarly, for all dharmas, it should be combined with "not existing as my own thing" and "not existing as another's thing" as appropriate. Whatever son of Sharadvati, the venerable one, says, "Why is it said that a Bodhisattva is just a name?" etc., this is Shariputra previously asking Subhuti, "Why do you say that a Bodhisattva is just a name?" Subhuti repeated the question and explained its meaning in detail. The son of Sharadvati, the venerable one, said, "A Bodhisattva is just a name temporarily designated. Therefore, a Bodhisattva is just a name," which means that in ultimate truth, the entity called Bodhisattva is not established as existing. Therefore, speaking of the name Bodhisattva from the absence of an entity is merely a temporary designation in conventional truth. If a Bodhisattva does not truly exist, then which Bodhisattva should be taught and instructed in the Perfection of Wisdom? This corresponds to the meaning mentioned earlier. The son of Sharadvati, the venerable one, said, "What is called form, what is called feeling, what is called perception, what is called mental formation, and what is called consciousness are just names temporarily designated," etc., which not only shows that a Bodhisattva does not exist in ultimate truth and is just a name temporarily designated, but also shows that all dharmas, including the five aggregates, are not truly existent in ultimate truth and are just names temporarily designated. The statement "Names do not come from anywhere, do not go anywhere, and do not abide anywhere" is to show the reason why the five aggregates are not truly existent but are just names temporarily designated. Because the aggregates such as form do not have an entity in ultimate truth, they do not come from anywhere when they arise, nor do they go anywhere when they cease, and because they are of momentary nature, they do not abide anywhere. What is called just a name is

It is not form, it is not feeling, it is not perception, it is not formation, it is not consciousness. This is merely a nominal designation, not truly existent, and therefore not the nature of the five aggregates. This is what is to be explained. Why is that? Because name is empty by its very nature of name. Whatever is emptiness, that is not name. This is to explain the reason why the nominally designated name is not the nature of the five aggregates. Because the nature of name is empty, it is not the nature of the five aggregates, that is its meaning. Just as it was said about the five aggregates, so too should it be applied to the twelve internal and external sources, the six consciousnesses, the six conjoined contacts, the six feelings arising from contact, the six elements such as the earth element, and the twelve links of dependent origination such as ignorance. Furthermore, Sharadvatiputra, this perfection of giving is merely a name. Name is also the perfection of giving, and the perfection of giving does not have that name. And so forth, all the purified dharmas such as the six perfections up to omniscience are not truly real in the ultimate sense, but are merely nominally designated. Therefore, a Bodhisattva is also merely nominally designated. This is what is to be explained. Sharadvatiputra, for example, 'I, I,' 'I am utterly unestablished,' and so forth, earlier Shariputra asked Subhuti, 'Why do you say, for example, "I, I," "I am utterly unestablished," and so forth?' Subhuti repeated these words and explained in detail the meaning of the self and so forth as conceived by the non-Buddhists being utterly unestablished. To this, Sharadvatiputra, 'If I am utterly non-existent and invisible, how could it be established?' From 'If the seer is utterly non-existent and invisible, how could it be established?' in between, it is the perverted clinging of the non-Buddhists.
