If one does not generate attachment or desire even for the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, what need is there to mention worldly bodies and enjoyments? Thus, not being attached to or generating desire for worldly and transworldly bodies and enjoyments is what is called having few desires. "Being content" means that even if a bodhisattva despises all-knowingness, they do not grasp it as real, nor do they become arrogant because of it. What need is there to mention being attached to worldly bodies and enjoyments and seeking something even better? Thus, being content with what one has already obtained and not seeking anything more is called being content. "Not abandoning the discipline of cultivated qualities" means that having realized the profound Dharma, one does not grasp at characteristics in the dharmas, nor does one abandon the discipline by not generating discriminations. Thus, possessing the qualities of cultivated discriminations is called not abandoning the discipline of cultivated qualities, and it is not merely about holding a broom, etc. "Not abandoning learning" means that a bodhisattva accomplishing the meaning of learning is learning without discrimination, and not thinking about the learning of hearers and self-awakened ones, etc., all of which involve discrimination. "Criticizing the qualities of desire" means seeing faults in the five qualities of desire and not generating a mind of attachment. "Generating a mind endowed with passing beyond sorrow" means not taking delight in the dharmas that cause cyclic existence and not discriminating. "Completely giving up all things" means not grasping at characteristics in all internal and external things and not regarding them as real, thus completely giving them up. "Having no timidity of mind" means that the mind does not follow the objects of the consciousnesses and is not attached, which is called having no timidity of mind. "Having no dependence on all things" means not regarding all internal and external things as real and not paying attention to them. Subhuti, these ten dharmas are not to be abandoned by a bodhisattva mahasattva abiding on the fourth ground, but should be well taken up and abided in.

It is taught that a Bodhisattva who abides in these ten dharmas and does not abandon them has truly entered the Great Vehicle. Furthermore, Subhuti, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who abides in the fifth bhumi should completely abandon these six dharmas, and so on, which means that a Bodhisattva from the fifth bhumi onwards should completely abandon the dharmas that become faults of a Bodhisattva. Among them, completely abandoning association with householders means that in this context, it only refers to abandoning association with householders, not abandoning the status of a householder. One should abandon the tumultuous household life, and having gone forth, shaved hair and beard, and donned monastic robes, one should act for the benefit of sentient beings, and should not rely on the household life. Associating with nuns means that with a mind attached to desire and craving, and attached to material things such as clothes, one should not even stay together with a nun who is ringing a bell. Not being stingy with lineage means that a Bodhisattva, whether he himself is born into a royal family, a Brahmin, or a householder's lineage, if he enters a household and receives offerings and respect, when others also enter that household and receive offerings and respect, he should generate this thought: These sentient beings, I should provide them with all the means of happiness, and if these sentient beings become happy through their own merit, I should not be stingy or jealous of that. One should think in this way and not generate jealousy. A crowded place means that in this context, it does not only mean abandoning the gathering of many people. If there are Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, or if there is a place where the teachings of the Shravaka or Pratyekabuddha vehicle are spoken, or if there is a place where the mind of the Shravaka or Pratyekabuddha vehicle may arise, a Bodhisattva should avoid such a place, which is called completely abandoning a crowded place. Harmful intent means that a Bodhisattva should not generate a mind that is harmful or detrimental to sentient beings, or generate a mind that leads to quarrels and disputes, which is called completely abandoning harmful intent. Praising oneself and disparaging others means
