It does not arise from the three realms and does not abide in the nature of all-knowingness. Likewise, the Great Vehicle, which is called the Dharma without characteristics in the ultimate sense, also does not arise from the three realms and does not abide in the nature of all-knowingness. This is shown. Subhuti, whoever desires the arising of dharmas without characteristics, that one merely desires the arising of the unborn. From "unfabricated, because of being empty of the very nature of unfabrication" up to here, it is included in the perfectly established characteristic: unborn, unceasing, undefiled, purified, and unfabricated. In the ultimate sense, because those are empty of their own nature, they do not arise from the three realms and do not abide in the nature of all-knowingness. Likewise, the Great Vehicle, which is called the Dharma without characteristics in the ultimate sense, also does not arise from the three realms and does not abide in the nature of all-knowingness. This is shown. Subhuti, in this way, by this designation, one should understand that the Great Vehicle arises from the three realms and abides in the nature of all-knowingness. In this way, in the ultimate sense, because all dharmas are empty of their own nature, no dharma arises from the three realms and does not abide in the nature of all-knowingness. In conventional truth, one should understand that it arises from the three realms and abides in the nature of all-knowingness. This is shown. The place is immovable, meaning that if one abides in the place of all-knowingness, one cannot be moved by opposing factors. Subhuti, furthermore, what you said, "Where will the Great Vehicle abide?"—the Great Vehicle does not abide anywhere. From such statements, it means that in response to Subhuti's question to the Bhagavan about where the Great Vehicle will abide, it is shown that in the ultimate sense, the Great Vehicle does not abide anywhere. Why is that? It is because all dharmas do not abide, since no place of abiding can be found. This refers to the Great Vehicle.

O, this is to show the reason why there is actually nowhere to abide. That is, in reality, all conditioned and unconditioned dharmas, because they are not established as real entities, have no place to abide. Similarly, the Mahayana also has nowhere to abide. This is to explain this point. Subhuti, to say that the Mahayana abides in an invisible way is to say that all dharmas in reality have no substance, and although there is nowhere to abide, in the mundane world, it is merely nominally abiding. This is to explain this point. Subhuti, for example, the realm of Dharma is neither abiding nor non-abiding, up to the realm of cessation being empty by its own nature. The unconditioned dharmas mentioned by name, because of their emptiness of self-nature, have no abiding and non-abiding. Similarly, for the Mahayana, there are no two extremes of abiding and non-abiding. This is to explain this point. Subhuti, for example, form emptiness is neither abiding nor non-abiding, up to the feeling born from the cause of the union of mind and touch, the feeling born from the cause of the union of mind and touch is empty. The five aggregates and other conditioned dharmas, because of their emptiness of self-nature, have no abiding or non-abiding. Similarly, for the Mahayana, it is also explained that there is no abiding or non-abiding. Subhuti, for example, a dream is neither abiding nor non-abiding, up to the emanation of the Tathagata being empty by the emanation of the Tathagata. For extremely non-existent dharmas such as dreams, there is no abiding and non-abiding. Similarly, for the Mahayana, there is actually no abiding and non-abiding. This is to explain this point. Subhuti, for example, the perfection of generosity is neither abiding nor non-abiding, up to the essence of omniscience being empty by the essence of omniscience. For pure dharmas, because of their emptiness of self-nature, there is no abiding and non-abiding. Similarly, for the Mahayana
