It does not arise, and nothing arises. Similarly, a Bodhisattva does not arise in the ultimate sense from the Great Vehicle. This is to show that "because it is extremely pure" means "because it is extremely empty." From "because it is extremely pure, the realm of phenomena is unattainable" to "the inconceivable realm is unattainable," it shows that things belonging to the category of emptiness are unattainable. From "because it is extremely pure, the aggregates are unattainable" to "dependent origination is unattainable," it shows that things belonging to the category of afflictions are unattainable. From "because it is extremely pure, the perfection of generosity is unattainable" to "because it is extremely pure, omniscience itself is unattainable," it shows that things belonging to the category of purification are unattainable. From "because it is extremely pure, no birth is unattainable" to "no manifestation is unattainable," it shows that no birth, no cessation, etc., which belong to the category of the realm of phenomena, are unattainable. From "because it is extremely pure, the prior limit is unattainable" to "because it is extremely pure, increase is unattainable," it shows that the three times, coming, going, dwelling, transference of life, birth, decrease, and increase are all empty in their own nature in the ultimate sense. Therefore, it is shown that because it is extremely pure, it is unattainable. If one asks, "By what being unattainable is everything unattainable?" This is to dispel the doubts of some in the audience who wonder whether the things that have been said to be unattainable are unattainable because their causes are unattainable, or because their own nature is unattainable. Therefore, the Blessed One himself declared, "By what being unattainable is everything unattainable?" in order to dispel this doubt. Because the realm of phenomena is unattainable, the realm of phenomena is unattainable.

That which is to be known is, in terms of the ultimate truth, the nature of the Dharmadhatu is without substance, because it is unattainable, therefore the Dharmadhatu is unattainable, thus it is declared. Why is this so? Subhuti, the unattainability of the Dharmadhatu is neither attainable nor unattainable. The so-called attainable and unattainable are spoken of from the existence of real things, but for those without substance, there is no name to be established as attainable and unattainable. Therefore, for the unattainability of the Dharmadhatu, there is no name to be established as attainable and unattainable, thus it is declared. Just as the explanation of the Dharmadhatu, so too, Suchness and the Limit of Reality, etc., should be applied in the same way until the decrease and increase are unattainable. The first ground is unattainable, therefore the first ground is unattainable, thus it is said, as for why this is so? Subhuti, the tenth ground is unattainable, neither attainable nor unattainable, thus it is said, the White, Purely Seen Ground, etc., in terms of the ultimate truth, is also without substance, therefore there is no name to be established as attainable and unattainable, thus it is declared. What is the first ground, etc., wherever it is said that from the first ground to the tenth ground is unattainable, these ten grounds are of two kinds, namely, the first ground of the Bodhisattva, the Joyful Ground, to the tenth ground, the Cloud of Dharma Ground, are also called the ten grounds, and the White, Purely Seen Ground, etc., are called the ten grounds. Here, some people wonder what these ten grounds refer to? In order to dispel some of the doubts among the audience, the Blessed One himself pointed out the White, Purely Seen Ground, etc., expressed by name. The so-called White, Purely Seen Ground refers to the stage of seeing the Dharma, where one first sees the Dharma purified by wisdom in the Ground of Practice of Faith. The so-called Lineage Ground refers to the stage of being in the Ground of Practice of Faith, when one is in the positions of Warmth, Peak, Patience, and the Supreme Worldly Dharma, because one possesses the lineage of the three Bodhis, it is called the Lineage Ground. The so-called Eighth Ground refers to counting upwards from the ranks of those who have attained the fruit of Arhat, entering the eighth position in order to manifest the fruit of Stream-entry.
