It is to view as virtue and recollect. What is recollection of morality? There are three types of morality: the morality of discipline, the morality of virtuous dharmas, and the morality of benefiting sentient beings. Among them, the morality of discipline is to refrain from practicing non-virtuous dharmas such as killing. The morality of virtuous dharmas is to engage in listening to the sacred Dharma, contemplating, and meditating, etc. The morality of benefiting sentient beings is to ripen those sentient beings who are not yet ripe and to liberate those who are not yet liberated. Such morality is the cause of attaining higher realms and Nirvana, viewing it as virtue and recollecting it. What is recollection of generosity? There are three types of generosity: material giving, fearlessness giving, and Dharma giving. If one practices such giving, it becomes the cause of obtaining abundant worldly and transworldly enjoyments, viewing it as virtue and recollecting it is called recollection of generosity. What is recollection of deities? The worldly and transworldly deities are the result of practicing good deeds in the past. If one practices in accordance with those deities and pleases them, it becomes the cause of obtaining worldly and transworldly siddhis, viewing it as virtue and recollecting it. What is recollection of the in-and-out breath? In order to prevent the mind from wandering and to make it workable when meditating on samadhi and concentration, one should recollect the in-and-out breath, viewing it as virtue. The in-and-out breath is as previously explained. What is recollection of disillusionment? To not be attached to samsara and to be disillusioned with it, viewing it as virtue and recollecting it. What is recollection of death? To think of the impermanence of the body and to not be attached to the body and its enjoyments is recollection. What is recollection of the aspects of the body? To think that the body from head to toe is filled with various impurities, yet not to be attached to the body is recollection. These recollections are of the Lesser Vehicle.

Even if practicing in this way, Bodhisattvas should realize the absence of focus in the ultimate truth, and in the relative truth, they should fully ripen all sentient beings. If they meditate in order to gain mastery over their minds, it is called the Great Vehicle. Furthermore, Subhuti, the Great Vehicle of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is as follows: the four dhyanas, etc., which are the four dhyanas, the four formless absorptions, the eight liberations, and the nine successive abidings, are taught to be the Great Vehicle. The characteristics and qualities of the four dhyanas, the four immeasurables, the four immeasurables, and the four absorptions have already been explained in the context of donning the great armor. What are the eight liberations? "Seeing forms as having form, this is called the first liberation," which means that a meditator, as an antidote to attachment to the color, etc., of his own body, contemplates his own body as being filled with various impurities from the skull to the heel, and meditates on it, which is called "having form." "Seeing forms" means that after the samadhi of contemplating impurity in the inner form is accomplished, one contemplates the outer forms as being blue, corrupted, etc., and the samadhi of meditating on ugliness is accomplished, which is called "seeing forms." "Without inner form, with the perception of no-form, seeing outer forms, this is called the second liberation," which means that some meditators do not meditate on the samadhi of perceiving their own body as being filled with various impurities, but rather perceive outer forms as being excellent, corrupted, etc., and meditate on them. "Believing in the beautiful, this is called the third liberation," which means that a meditator, having meditated on the ugliness of inner and outer forms, becomes weary and depressed, and in order to restore the mind and uplift the spirit, focuses on beautiful objects, or, having meditated on ugliness, becomes interested in and looks at beautiful objects, and in order to observe whether attachment to color, etc., will arise, and whether the mind will change or not, looks at beautiful colors, etc., and meditates.

. The four formless absorptions, such as the sphere of infinite space, are the same as before. "Cessation of perception and feeling" refers to the absorption of cessation, that is, in order to allow the noble hearers, the non-returners, and the arhats to abide in the bliss of nirvana with remainder, the discriminations such as perception and feeling are stopped, so that the body and mind are equally at rest. In this way, if one cultivates the first three liberations, the four formless absorptions, and the absorption of cessation, these eight, one can obtain the nature of nirvana liberation, therefore it is called liberation. These eight liberations are cultivated with objects by the hearers and solitary Buddhas. If Bodhisattvas cultivate them without objects, they will become the cause of attaining unsurpassed Bodhi, therefore it is called Mahayana. Among them, the so-called "closely abiding" means to perfectly complete and cultivate. Among them, from "What are the nine successive abidings" to "These are the nine successive abidings," it is said that the nine successive abidings are Mahayana. Bodhisattvas, in order to tame their minds, successively abide in and gradually cultivate the nine, the four dhyanas, the four formless absorptions, and the absorption of cessation, which are called the nine successive abidings. Their nature and the meaning of Mahayana are as mentioned before. Subhuti, moreover, the Mahayana of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is the ten powers of the Tathagata, etc., which means that the ten powers of the Tathagata are Mahayana. The so-called "knowing what is possible as it is, and what is impossible as it is," means that the result of practicing virtuous deeds is to experience happiness, which is possible, and the result of practicing virtuous deeds is to experience suffering, which is impossible.
