It is called the act of abandoning. Among them, aspiration means wanting to enter into the meditative states and samadhis of the world and beyond the world. Diligence means striving and endeavoring to definitely eliminate all non-virtuous dharmas. Faith means wanting to attain the four fruits, such as the fruit of entering the stream, and the qualities of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, such as the ten bhumis. When entering into extremely pliant meditative states and samadhis, the body and mind become workable. Mindfulness means that the mind is not confused in meditative states and samadhis. Awareness means that by the power of wisdom, one guards against the arising of dharmas that are contrary. Attention means the characteristic of completely taming the mind, the mind manifestly acting.

The Great Vehicle of the Great Heroic Bodhisattva, such as the five faculties, etc., indicates that the five faculties are the Great Vehicle. That is, faith, diligence, mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom. By the power of these five dharmas, one can enter the supramundane stream of dharma, attain the four fruits, etc., and become the cause for attaining the first ground, etc., hence they are called faculties. Subhuti, furthermore, the Great Vehicle of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, such as the five powers, etc., indicates that the five powers are the Great Vehicle. That is, the five faculties of faith, etc., by repeatedly meditating on them, become firm and powerful, so they cannot be shaken or overcome by afflictions and other unfavorable dharmas, hence they are called powers. If one meditates on these five faculties and five powers, one will definitely possess the four roots of virtue that are in accordance with the part of ascertainment, what are the four? They are the heat stage, the peak stage, the forbearance stage, and the supreme mundane dharma. Among them, at the time of the heat stage and the peak stage, faith, etc., are called the five faculties. At the time of the forbearance stage and the supreme mundane dharma, they are called the five powers. The so-called ascertainment is that the Bodhisattva on the first ground truly realizes the essence of the dharma realm and distinguishes the particulars, hence it is called ascertainment. Meditating on the five faculties and five powers, possessing the heat stage, the peak stage, the forbearance stage, and the supreme mundane dharma, etc., then this ascertainment is in accordance with the part of the first ground and becomes the cause for attaining the first ground, hence it is called the root of virtue in accordance with the part of ascertainment. Subhuti, furthermore, the Great Vehicle of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, such as the seven limbs of enlightenment, etc., indicates that the seven limbs of enlightenment are the Great Vehicle. Among them, the so-called enlightenment is the realization of the nature of enlightenment, the suchness of the dharma realm, on the first ground. These seven dharmas, such as mindfulness, are enlightenment
