Likewise, it should also be applied to the aggregates of feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness. O Blessed One, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he should not abide in the thought that "form is suffering," and so on. O Blessed One, therefore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he should not abide in the thought that "consciousness is four." This is to show that one should not abide in the realization that the nature of the five aggregates is suffering, selflessness, and the nature of peace. O Blessed One, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he should not abide in the thought that "form is empty," and so on. O Blessed One, therefore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he should not abide in the thought that "consciousness is without aspiration." This is to show that one should not abide in the realization that the five aggregates, such as form, are the gate of liberation, and are the nature of emptiness, signlessness, and aspirationlessness. O Blessed One, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he should not abide in the thought that "form is secluded," and so on. O Blessed One, therefore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he should not abide in the thought that "consciousness is secluded." This is to show that one should not abide in the realization that the five aggregates, such as form, are the nature of seclusion. Seclusion is a synonym for emptiness, because it is secluded from the two, the grasped and the grasper. O Blessed One, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he should not abide in Suchness, and so on. O Blessed One, therefore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom,

Up to the phrase "does not abide in the extreme," it indicates the practice of non-abiding by viewing qualities in aspects of the Dharma that belong to the side of purification, such as Suchness, Dharmata, Dharmadhatu, the nature of being without faults, and the ultimate limit. These Suchness and so forth are merely synonyms for emptiness, and their characteristics are as previously explained. Up to this point, the practice of not abiding in Dharmata has been explained. Now, to show that abiding in Dharma and Dharmata becomes an object of fault, "Bhagavan, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, while practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, due to unskilled means, abides in form with a mind that clings to self and what belongs to self, then he is practicing the manifestation of form, not practicing the Perfection of Wisdom," and so on, up to "Bhagavan, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, while practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, due to unskilled means, abides in the ultimate limit with a mind that clings to self and what belongs to self, then he is practicing the manifestation of the ultimate limit, not practicing the Perfection of Wisdom," has been shown. "Due to unskilled means" means that although Dharmas are without substance in ultimate reality, one practices worldly and transworldly Dharmas with a mind that clings to substance. "Abiding in form with a mind that clings to self and what belongs to self" means practicing with a mind that views self and what belongs to self as substantial, thinking, "I am the nature of form," or "These forms are mine." In this context, "practicing the manifestation of form, not practicing the Perfection of Wisdom" means that because one views form as substantial, one views that there is arising and ceasing due to causes and conditions, and one is not practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, which is the characteristic of realizing all Dharmas as emptiness. This is the meaning of this passage. Similarly, all the remaining feelings and so forth should also be applied analogously. Why is that? Because one is practicing manifestation.
