Having named it "Perfection of Wisdom," and having given instructions or subsequent teachings, because of seeing the fault of falsely imputing to what is not truly existent, I will feel regret, this is the meaning to be expressed. Blessed One, thus, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva speaks of the Perfection of Wisdom, from "abiding" to "what is called abiding is the manner of not abiding," thus, the practice of being free from the two extremes, which was explained in detail in the order mentioned above, is summarized and shown. If, upon hearing such a profound meaning, one does not fear, does not panic, does not become frightened, then that Bodhisattva abides in the eighth Bodhisattva ground, the irreversible ground, and is shown to definitely attain omniscience. These aspects, these ways, these characteristics, refer to the fact that when the profound Dharma is shown with the aspects, ways, and characteristics of being free from the two extremes, if the mind is not discouraged and does not regret, one abides in the irreversible ground and will definitely attain omniscience, which should be understood in connection with what follows. Having thus shown the practice of being free from the two extremes, now, in order to show the practice of non-abiding, Blessed One, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he should not abide in form, etc., thus it is said. This practice of non-abiding also has two aspects: non-abiding in phenomena and non-abiding in the nature of phenomena. Among them, non-abiding in phenomena is: he should not abide in form, he should not abide in feeling, etc., Blessed One, therefore, the Bodhisattva

The sense bases, the six contacts, the six feelings, earth, water, fire, wind, space, and the realms of consciousness, as well as the twelve links of dependent origination, should not be dwelt upon. Why is that? The Blessed One said, "Form is empty of form. That which is the emptiness of form is also not form. Apart from form, there is no emptiness. Form itself is emptiness, and emptiness is form," and so on. This shows the reason why one should not dwell on form and so on. Here, there are three kinds of form: the form of complete imputation, the form of discrimination, and the form of suchness. Among them, the form of objects, which is apprehended as the characteristic of being suitable for form, etc., by ordinary people, is the form of complete imputation. That form itself, which appears as the meaning of any aspect and becomes the object of discriminating consciousness, is called the form of discrimination. That which is separated from the aspects of both the form of complete imputation and the form of discrimination, and is completely established, being merely suchness, is called the form of suchness. Among them, that which is completely established, the form of suchness, is said to be "form is empty of form" because there is no form of complete imputation, which has the characteristic of being suitable for form, and there is no form of discrimination, which appears as the aspect of an object. This shows that the form of suchness, the completely established characteristic, is empty of the characteristics of grasping and being grasped, which are the forms of complete imputation and discrimination. After saying that, in order to prevent someone from thinking that since the form of suchness, which is the emptiness of the form of complete imputation and the form of discrimination, is said to be form, then it should also have some form, it is said, "That which is the emptiness of form is also not form." This means that that which is empty of the form of complete imputation and the form of discrimination, the characteristic of suchness that is completely established, which is called the form of suchness, is not the nature of form, because in all aspects it is free from the aspect of form.

It means, it is for emptiness. Having said that, if form does not exist in all aspects, then what is empty, and why is this called emptiness? For example, a jar without butter can be said to be empty of butter, but if both the jar and the butter do not exist, then there is no object to be called empty, so one might think, and also doubt that it is unreasonable for dharma to be different from dharmata, and unreasonable for dharma to be other than dharmata. Therefore, it is said, "Emptiness does not exist apart from form," meaning that in reality, the nature of form is not established, and this is called emptiness, not like a container and its contents, where one empties the other. To clearly show that meaning, it is said, "Form is emptiness, emptiness is form," meaning that form is not established as real, and this is called emptiness, because emptiness does not exist apart from it. This is like dharma and dharmata not being different entities. Thus it is shown, therefore, the two forms, the imputed and the discriminated, are completely non-existent, and the form of dharmata is merely suchness, because it cannot abide in the nature of complete establishment, so it is said, "Do not abide in form." Similarly, the aggregates such as feeling, the eighteen elements, the twelve sources, earth, water, fire, wind, space, the element of consciousness, and the twelve links of dependent origination, which are the dharmas that are the cause of samsara, the six perfections, the four mindfulnesses, the four right abandonments, the four miraculous feet, the five faculties, the five powers, the seven branches of enlightenment, the eightfold noble path, the four noble truths, the four meditations, the four immeasurables, the four formless absorptions, the eight liberations, the nine sequential abidings, the three doors of liberation, the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, and great compassion.
