There are four kinds of patience. What is the patience of suffering here and elsewhere? Here, when a Bodhisattva dwells in mindfulness and practices virtue, he endures the harm of cold, heat, hunger, thirst, mosquitoes, poisonous snakes, etc., endures physical and mental fatigue, and when he wanders in samsara out of compassion for sentient beings, he endures the suffering of birth, old age, sickness, etc. The so-called "to perfect the twenty superior intentions" means: the Bodhisattva generates faith in the Buddha's teachings, generates joy in the Buddha's teachings through the cause of understanding with wisdom, and the intention of understanding and definitely comprehending is the Bodhisattva's superior intention, which is twenty kinds. What are the twenty kinds? Generating superior faith and supreme intention in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and the intention of discipline of generating superior intention in truly upholding the Bodhisattva's vows of discipline, and the Paramita intention of generating superior intention in order to perfect generosity, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom, and the intention of the true meaning of generating superior intention in the selflessness of phenomena and individuals, and in the profound ultimate truth and suchness of phenomena, and the steadfast intention of focusing the mind on perfect Bodhi and being determined and unwavering, and the superior intention generated in the stage of practice with aspiration is the impure intention, and the superior intention from the first bhumi to the eighth bhumi is pure, and the superior intention of the ultimate bhumi, i.e., the ninth and tenth bhumis, is extremely pure, and generating superior intention in the inconceivable power of the superknowledges of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and the intention of benefit of causing sentient beings to practice virtue, and the intention of not deceiving the gurus and the objects of offering, and the Bodhisattva practices in accordance with the Dharma, and the intention of making people happy when interacting with them, and the intention of subduing afflictions and near afflictions and all the works of demons, so that they do not become slaves of the mind, and the intention of seeing all conditioned phenomena as faults, and the intention of seeing Nirvana as benefit.
