Bodhisattvas abiding above the eighth ground, in order to fully ripen sentient beings and to purify the Buddha-fields completely, all of these do not need to be deliberately thought about or sought after. By the power of past actions and the blessing of aspirations, they are naturally accomplished and completely perfected. Because of realizing that all dharmas are unborn from the very beginning, there is no fear or terror of the profound Dharma, and it becomes the most supreme.

Those Bodhisattvas, whether they go to the retinue of gods such as Brahma, or to the retinue of Kshatriyas and Brahmins, or to the retinue of demons and heretics, are fearful and apprehensive because they do not know. Because they are free from fear and apprehension arising from afflictions, they are said to have attained great fearlessness. What is called 'unwavering mind' is that because they have attained such great fearlessness, they are not fearful or apprehensive in whatever retinue they go to, whether it be Kshatriyas or Brahmins. Because they possess perfect confidence, they are called 'unwavering mind.' What is called 'completely transcending all the works of Mara' indicates that they possess the power that cannot be overcome by anything. The works of Mara, which will be mentioned below, and all the works of Mara mentioned in other sutras, cannot withstand them. What is called 'severing the obscurations of karma' means that through the order mentioned above, there is no fear of not knowing and of afflictions, and because they have completely transcended the works of Mara, they will no longer be born in happy or unhappy realms due to the power of past karma. This is the meaning. What is called 'completely vanquishing opponents because they have destroyed karma and afflictions' means that they have abandoned the enemies of karma and afflictions. What is called 'not being overwhelmed by all external opponents' means that they cannot be overcome by external debaters. What is called 'difficult to realize by all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas' indicates that the knowledge, thoughts, and sphere of activity of those Bodhisattvas cannot be known by Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. What is called 'skilled in thoroughly understanding the Dharma, distinguishing and teaching' means that through thoroughly understanding worldly dharmas such as the aggregates, elements, and sense bases, and supramundane dharmas such as the grounds, perfections, and aspects of enlightenment, they are skilled in distinguishing the intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics of those dharmas and in teaching them to others. These are the qualities of the eighth Bodhisattva ground. What is called 'having made great effort in aspirations from countless eons'
