What arises from truly meditating is eloquent speech, decisive wisdom, the discipline of not doing what should not be done, and the pure discipline of seeking Dharma robes and the like with measuring tools. These are the thirty-seven aspects of mindfulness and so forth, which have been explained as being summarized into one aspect. Knowing exhaustion and non-arising is enlightenment and its aspect; 'concordant' refers to the aspect of enlightenment. Furthermore, Bodhisattvas, in order to pursue all Dharmas in all circumstances, and in order to generate the cause of benefiting all sentient beings, gather the yoga that does not follow objects of reference, the meaning of individually examining the essence, emptiness and compassion, into the mind of enlightenment that is inseparable, and meditate on it. These, by thus liberating from the obscuration of transformation, are the eight liberations that are the antidote to obscurations. Among them, in terms of objects, whichever of the three, purity and impurity, the yogi desires, is praised from the practice of all things, and as an antidote to desire and the like, one enters into equanimity by focusing on inner hair and so forth, and afterwards, in this way, one focuses on external objects and so forth, and thus enters into the first dhyana. With the praise of the ground of the first dhyana, the second dhyana is the antidote to desire, and its declaration is 'one with form sees form,' that is, seeing form by focusing on the form of the inner self and so forth, focusing on the external form and so forth, which means seeing with the mind transformed by faith. In some cases, one does not focus on the inner self, but only focuses on external objects and so forth, and enters into the first or second dhyana as before, and its declaration is 'one with the perception of formlessness of the inner self sees external forms,' this is the second. Thus, by meditating on impurity, joy arises in the minds of sentient beings. Would praise and desire and the like arise if I were to focus on a pleasing form as pure?

However, because of being weary of what is not so, one focuses on a pleasing image, thereby entering the fourth dhyana. Because one obtains a uniform cognition of the pure images that are manifested, it is incompatible with practicing in sequence, so one becomes averse and thinks of it as suffering. Thus it is said. Therefore, there are three liberations with form and five without form, from the liberation of infinite space to the liberation of the cessation of feeling and perception. Among them, the four formless ones, in the pure realm, are liberations because they are the antidote to the obscurations of tasting the flavor there, and are called the place of peace. The cessation of perception and feeling is a state similar to liberation, abiding in the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, and having completely transcended, one does not attend to any signs, and attends to the cessation as peace, thereby ceasing all mind and mental factors, and abiding in the supreme peace, the previous karma arises, and by completely abandoning its obscuration, it is liberation. Here, how is it that the stream of consciousness of those who enter into non-perception does not cease? Because the fruit of the karma previously habituated to the stream of consciousness will come and arise, and also in that very life, that karma is habituated to the stream of consciousness, so it will connect. By what will that be connected? Because the mind that enters into samadhi has stopped for a long time, its immediate cause is one of them. The teacher Vasubandhu said that there is a cessation samadhi with mind, then, what kind of mind is it? It is the mental consciousness, this is one of them. The Mind-Only school says it is the alaya-vijñana, that is the thought of others. The four dhyanas, the four formless states, and the cessation of perception and feeling, these are the nine successive abidings, by entering into these samadhis, in order to gather the supramundane path, one enters into the cessation samadhi, and therefore one obtains it. The mind abides, suppressing the object, by the suppressing
