Without departing from that truth, happiness does not arise anywhere. And there is no alteration in it, because of its permanence, it is not something that possesses alteration. Therefore, in the ultimate sense, there is not even a little bit of valid cognition that establishes the reality of cause and effect. Whatever is the producer of the ultimate result, does it arise from itself, or from another, or from both, or from neither, or from no cause? For that, from beginningless time, the nature of things that are existent and non-existent, the nature of cause is not reasonable. Non-existence is like following after the son of a barren woman, it is non-existent and does not arise from itself, so there is no arising from itself. Even if it is complete, it arises from a part that is non-existent, so how can it arise from itself like a thought? That which is not complete, by what does it become complete, then the combination of that with its own essence becomes too extreme. In all cases, things are clearly abiding by their own nature, as asserted by the Samkhyas (Enumerators), because those that make manifest always abide in manifestation, other aspects such as non-manifestation are not reasonable. Because those that make manifest have not done anything at all, then the fault of all things always being manifest and so on is difficult to reverse. Furthermore, wherever something arises from itself, the object and so on do not necessarily change, because relying on another, this reliance on the absence of what is needed for it to arise from another is not reasonable, and because what is relied upon is always close, this itself will arise. Therefore, even in conventional terms, there is no arising from itself, and from another, the nature of the earlier and later times appears to be the same, so the term 'arising' is not reasonable for permanence, because there is no successive or simultaneous action for permanence. What is the point of applying a name to it by speaking of it differently with valid cognition? That permanence is a nature devoid of all abilities, no different from a rabbit's horn, being devoid of all things is the characteristic of non-existence. Arising is also not reasonable for impermanent, momentary things, because the nature of impermanent things, which is to abide for a moment, has been established elsewhere. It does not arise from what has passed.

That is, since the past does not exist, it will arise from a causeless cause. It is also not from the future, because the non-existent produces fruit, like flowers in the sky, etc. It is also not from the present, because its producer and fruit are simultaneous or different times. First, it is not simultaneous, because before the fruit is produced, the causeless is like a rabbit, unable to exert power. If it is said that the thing that obtains the nature of the cause, its fruit is also completed by it at the same time, then, for any cause, even if the time is different, the path will not be manifested, because the past cannot exert power to produce the future. Then, in the second moment of having a cause, if there is an interval between moments, the fruit will be produced, then it also has no cause, because it is a moment. Therefore, the cause exists in the moment of the cause, the fruit is not interrupted by other times, but exists subtly in the fruit, there is no other time, so it will become the same time. The indivisible before and after moments, because they universally touch with the nature of everything, so in its one moment, all moments are gathered together, so the kalpa also becomes a moment. Just as when extremely small dust universally combines with the nature of everything, the lump will also become extremely small dust. Furthermore, how the objects are harmed by the conventional measure that appears in sequence, therefore the sequence of time will also change, just like the appearance of kalpas, etc. in dreams, etc. For the moment of the same object there is no interval, because it has parts, so at the end of time, its characteristics will disappear. Even if things are completely destroyed, there is no interval with non-things, it will not become the same time. Therefore, if it is said that cause and effect are not simultaneous even though they are not interrupted, it is unreasonable. Because non-things do not exist anywhere, not even in name. Just as blue is not blue in other places, but arises from its own cause, so it is for other times as well. The destruction that destroys the nature of things is here only the inversion of the nature of objects and times.
