Now it is also like this. For those, the noble other shore is the other shore, meaning to go to this ultimate. The other shore is to go to the ultimate, and the noble attainment of the other shore is obtained by this. Mastery means that wherever, however one wishes, arising from the law and returning from the law, from the initial order, one is able to fully accomplish the nine samadhis and enter into samadhi, and also to individually realize the abidings and views, and therefore obtain mastery. When speaking of all, if asked: Does the venerable Ananda also possess these qualities? The answer is no, because speaking of "one" etc., these words of the noble ones are different from the eight noble ones who have the same meaning. Non-realization is complete abandonment. For example, saying "like this" is to indicate closeness to others. The so-called "endowed with life" means particularly pleasing, and in the world one wants to have fame, so he makes it pleasing in this way. Here, the Sangha of the Hearers is explained, considering the later entry into the Mahayana, and for the sake of the well-known retinue, and for the sake of the certain retinue, that is, the well-known is the retinue of the ordained themselves, and the certain is that they always abide near their own complete perfect Buddha. Bodhisattvas are not like this, because most are householders, and also from here they go to the various realms of the ten directions, and also come here from those places, therefore the Sangha of Bodhisattvas is not explained here, because their vehicle is explained, therefore the retinue of Bodhisattvas is immeasurable, to clarify this, and this is the time when the Prajnaparamita is summarized here. Among them, there are three kinds of practitioners, one is to understand after hearing, and to fully accept the words, this is to like the extensive. The second is to explain extensively, and to understand even the remainder, to understand through detailed explanation, this is to like the moderate. The third is to explain little, and to understand much by mentioning the beginning, this is to like the concise. For them, according to the order, the Bhagavan respectively taught the Eight Thousand, Twenty-Five Thousand, and Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita Sutras. Among them, the text is concise.

Because one desires that, the introduction to this treatise is also concise. Monks and nuns, as well as retinues of gods, humans, asuras, gandharvas, and so on, should also be understood here. Having explained those, the retinue and abode where the Blessed One spoke as described on Vulture Peak, I heard from the Blessed One, and that is the introduction. The occasion for understanding the teachings is from "then" and so on. The word "also" is an ornament of the sentence, because of residing there, or because of being wealthy among the sangha residing there, therefore it is Subhuti. Mentioning "Elder" is for the sake of offering, and abiding in those without afflictions who will become arhats is also for the sake of excellence. "Bestowing teachings" refers to Subhuti, which is blessed by speech. The Blessed One blesses in three ways for the purpose of teaching the Dharma: some with the hand, some with speech, and some with the mind. Why? For the sake of arousing the joy of those of the same kind. "Be brave" means: you should directly realize the complete perfect enlightenment. At the moment of calling Subhuti and teaching, many others who need to be tamed each thought: the Blessed One is looking at me with a smile and teaching me the Dharma. Even so, because the teachings were bestowed from Subhuti, these two are combined. Then, when teaching the vehicles of the bodhisattvas, why were they not called even once? If the bodhisattvas were called and taught, some would think that this sutra is very profound and we cannot practice it. If the teaching begins with Subhuti, then it is common to all beings, and thinking that it is not very profound, they will become very involved. It is also common, because it is the occasion of the three omniscient ones, so through his explanation, monks and other retinues can also attain the realization of the Dharma. Even if there is no disciple who has been requested by the guru, even so, this request is because of reverence for the Dharma. Even so, it is said: Elder Subhuti especially admired the Prajnaparamita from a young age.
