Seeing forms, this is called the second. Thus, by meditating on impurity, will joy arise in the minds of sentient beings? Would I praise considering pleasant forms as pure and generate desire and so on? However, it is not so, because one is weary, therefore, one focuses on pleasant forms, thereby entering the fourth dhyana, thus, for those who transform pure forms, having obtained the perception of the same taste, because it is contrary to the order of practice, one will be inclined to consider what is abandoned as suffering, this is what is said. Thus, there are three liberations of form and five of formlessness, from the liberation of the sphere of infinite space to the liberation of the cessation of feeling and perception. Among them, there are four formless ones, in the Pure Abodes, because it is the antidote to the obscuration of tasting its flavor, therefore it is liberation, called the place of peace. The cessation of perception and feeling is a state similar to liberation, abiding in the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, and having completely transcended, not attending to all signs, and attending to cessation as peace, thereby ceasing all mind and mental factors, abiding in the most peaceful state, the previous karma will arise, and by completely abandoning its obscuration, it is liberation. Here, if the stream of consciousness of those who enter into non-perception does not cease, then the fruit of the karma previously accustomed to the stream of consciousness will come and arise, and also in that birth, that karma is accustomed to the stream of consciousness, so it will connect. By what will that be connected? In the place where one enters into samadhi, the mind has stopped for a long time, so by its immediate cause, this is one view. The teacher Dignaga's friend said that this is the cessation samadhi with mind, thus he explained. Among them, what kind of mind is it? It is the consciousness of mind, this is one view. The Mind-Only school says that this is the alaya-vijñana, this also needs to be considered, this is the view of others. The four dhyanas, the four formless absorptions, and the cessation of perception and feeling.

The earth and so on are the nine successive absorptions of gradual abiding. Entering into these absorptions is for the purpose of gathering the supramundane path, which is entering into the cessation absorption, because it is through this that one can attain. When the mind abides and overcomes the object, it is the overcoming place. There are eight other overcoming places. Among them, first, the two are summarized by the door of liberation, and the two are also two by the two victories. The third is four. Thus, the Blessed One also said: "One who has the perception of inner form sees the outer form as small, and also overcomes and knows it. Overcomes and sees, and thus does not become a perceiver, this is the first. Similarly, 'with the great' is the second. One who has no perception of inner form sees the outer form, small, those...etc. is the third. Similarly, 'with the great' etc. is the fourth. One who has no perception of inner form sees the outer form, blue, those...etc. is the fifth. Similarly, 'yellow' is the sixth. Similarly, 'red' is the seventh. Similarly, 'white' is the eighth." Among them, small form refers to sentient beings, because their size is small. Large form refers to the number of sentient beings, as well as houses, pavilions, mountains, etc., because their size is large. Therefore, in whatever way it is suitable, with the doors of liberation, etc., especially with the overcoming places, overcome, and repeatedly make them invisible and see. Overcoming and knowing refers to calming abiding. Seeing refers to superior seeing. Becoming such a perceiver is because there is no arrogance. The exhaustion of earth, etc., which is overcome by the overcoming place, is developed in the wheel enclosure, and elsewhere this place is called exhaustion. Some places say that a place of birth different from this is called the overcoming place. Some places say that distinguishing by earth, etc., will show the exhaustion of earth, the exhaustion of water, the exhaustion of fire, the exhaustion of wind, the exhaustion of blue, the exhaustion of yellow, the exhaus-
