Ah! For the Dharma that already exists, the agent itself and the agent of all actions are the same, this is examined. That which arises from dependent origination, the collection of causes and conditions, is called Dharma. The Dharma that arises obtains itself by relying on other Dharmas. This is what the Bhagavan said: 'This arising, that arises; this ceasing, that ceases,' which is not contradictory, because it exists in the conforming aspect. It is also not uncertain, because the arising of ultimate nature is unreasonable, and non-combination is reasonable. Because in the ultimate sense, the entity of cause and effect is not established. Non-establishment is because in the ultimate sense, it is unreasonable to combine the self-nature of knowledge with the grasping of self. Self-cognizing consciousnesses are also merely self-cognizing, therefore they do not grasp any prior or subsequent entities, because they are imputed as a single continuum, therefore there is no entity. Those with different causes also do not recognize each other. And, at the time of the object, it is also to prevent those who wish to manifest as cause and effect. If it is said that through the gradually arising wisdom, one experiences the prior and subsequent entities, and then after that, connects with a mind of various forms, through the way in which the prior is specially assembled, to realize the prior and subsequent entities, and to realize the entity of cause and effect. Then, that would become the nature of conventional truth, merely knowing one's own nature at the time of universal experience. Because there is no distinction made anywhere, therefore on it, in a manifest way, the entity of cause and effect is not established. Therefore, subsequent inference is also non-existent. Because, if the result sees the entity of its own cause's moment in an instant, and if it does not see it, then it would see all the unmissed, various momentary entities that are simultaneous with its own cause's moment, and if it does not see it, then it would not see it, because that would become its cause. The entity of cause and effect of any continuum is unreasonable, because this is the occasion for establishing the entity of cause and effect in the ultimate sense. Apart from the momentary

Moreover, the cause of the conventional truth is not established. The meaning of permanence does not exist in the objects of cause and effect, so it cannot be apprehended together by direct perception. Therefore, following after the happiness of the results of self and Ishvara, etc., is not established. Without being separated from that truth, happiness will not arise anywhere. There is no contradiction to this, because permanence itself is not contradictory. Therefore, as far as the ultimate truth is concerned, there is not even a little bit of valid cognition that establishes the objects of cause and effect. Whatever the producer of the result of the ultimate truth, is it produced from itself, or from another, or from both, or from neither, or from no cause? To this, from beginningless time, for the nature of existing and non-existing things, the cause itself is not reasonable. Non-existence is non-existent like the son of a barren woman, and for oneself who has not arisen, arising from oneself is non-existent. Even if it is complete, it arises from a part that is non-existent, so, like the mind, how can it arise from itself? If something is not complete, what will become complete? To combine it with its own nature would be too extreme. In all cases, things are always manifest as abiding by their own nature according to the Samkhya view, because those that make them manifest always abide in manifestation, so other modes such as non-manifestation are unreasonable. Because those that make it manifest have not done even a little, therefore, always, all things are always manifest, etc., is difficult to avoid. Furthermore, in any place, whatever arises from itself, the place, etc., will necessarily not change, because this that depends on others, which has arisen from another, depending on what is not closely needed is unreasonable, and what is to be depended on is always close, so this will arise. Therefore, in name, arising from oneself is also impossible. And from another, because the earlier and later times appear to be the same entity, so for permanence, the name of arising is also unreasonable, because permanence does not have successive and simultaneous actions, so, to this, what is reasonable to establish by the means of valid cognition approaching in another way? Its permanence is the nature of being devoid of all abilities, and there is no difference from a rabbit's horn.
